If you love magic, Black culture, and a good laugh, The Secret Life of Maggie Grey is definitely one to check out. Granger does an amazing job weaving in humor, mystery, and some very Atlanta moments that make the story feel real and alive. The characters are fun, the world-building is solid, and there are plenty of twists to keep you hooked.

Now, I will say there were a few typos and grammar slips here and there, plus the physical book didn’t have page numbers (which was kind of annoying). There were also some things—like the doors and a few characters—that could’ve been explained more, but maybe that’s coming in the next book or a spin-off.

And that cliffhanger? Absolutely ruthless. I need the next book ASAP. If this is your first time reading Granger, trust me, you won’t be disappointed. This is a fun, fresh, and super Black fantasy read that’s well worth your time!

This book has sooo much potential and really needed editing to narrow down the povs being read. Also the price of the book vs the quality of the book itself is disappointing but otherwise the story chefs kiss I definitely want the second book but I have to work myself for paying $40

Mannnnnn Granger what a hell of a book. Even with the cliff hanger, that had my mouth on the floor, this was amazing and the audio made it even better. Granger/Desiree’s mind is creatively powerful and this is only my second read from her.

A magical HBCU you say! Well sign me up. Vampires, sirens, wolves, witches and more and they’re all BLACK! Yes immediately. Every single character in here did their thang. Adding so much energy and fun to this book. Maggie was just spitting game about a civil rights movement in her class and then boom next thing you know baby girl is a part of history. She is history. I know some stuff has to happen in book two.

I loved all the characters but the group of misfits was the best. Making their own rules and becoming real friends. HOWEVER, Asha is my number one favorite with Quan the cat coming in easily at two. Asha is that girl!!! I love her down. The way she read these people multiple times for filth was amazing. I know we got wolves in here but Asha is Big Dawg. Yes she has a past that’s not pretty and In the same breath this makes her the confident no bs Boss Bitch siren. Can’t wait to see her growth. Quan was too funny but he was also spitting facts.

I can’t wait to reread this book.
