So this is ever after

So This is Ever After caught my attention from the beautiful cover art and that’s honestly what made me want to read it so bad. I normally don’t read romantic comedies simply because I don’t always find the humour to be all that funny or sometimes I don’t think that EVERY character needs to try and crack jokes or make you laugh. I thought that was a bit of the case here and while that wasn’t a bad thing it made some of the mail characters lose some points for me.

STORY- 3/5 Story wise there isn’t a whole lot here since this story starts at the end of a long journey that is referenced to a lot that we actually don’t even get to see or even get many details for. The story plays out EXACTLY as the synopsis says it will and a part of me likes that but I also found myself filling in the gaps to the synopsis as I was reading and I felt like I wasn’t actually getting anything added to the story.

CHARACTERS- 4/5 The characters in this are all really great, none of them are annoying and they are all really fluid and get along well, they also support each other and are funny and playful in the same way a family would be. I like found family stories and I’m not sure if this is meant to be one but I found it to be really great for that. The main character Arek is somewhat bland but he interacts so well with all of the other characters that it puts him in neutral/likeable territory for me. Matt is kind of annoying and is pretty much the sole reason for most of their misunderstandings but he is still likeable since he is such a great friend to Arek (even though they love eachother) All of the supporting characters are great but Lila is actually my favourite character in this book, she was the one that made me smile and giggle while reading since her character was so funny and somewhat relatable. I could have read more about her character for hours if she was more in the forefront.

This was a pretty good read for me and it’s a solid 4/5 I think this will be a great book for anyone looking for some fantasy books with a lot of LGBTQ representation. This is one of the few YA Fantasy books I have read and I will keep an eye out for more! I did like the writing for this book and I’m hoping to read other work from this author.

It has been a little while since I have read it, but I remember getting invested in the characters but also finding the vernacular choices a bit odd. It took me a while to get used to the modern lingo in a medieval type setting.

this book was super cute if not a little frustrating at how dumb the main characters are about each other. I really loved it though! it was super cute and had great world building for being a typical length novel. my biggest critique is I wish it switched perspectives so we got both sides of the love story.
