surfer x bodyguard and they are ex husband and wife?? hell yes. THIS BOOK WAS EXACTLY WHAT I HOPED IT WOUDL BE.

This book was the perfect second chance romance, I was in the mood for (thank you T for the recommendation <3 ).

Serena and Cope fell madly in love with each other and got married when they were 24.
Now, 4 years later, they haven’t seen or talked to each other in those years. Serena made it to the top and is a pro surfer now. Cope is a hot bodyguard.

And suddenly their paths cross again: Cope is assigned as Serena’s security guard.

Whilst the pining and longing in this book isn’t particularly angsty, it’s instantly tension on level 10/10. The flirty banter and feelings that never went away are palpable from the first page they meet again. The air around those two is constantly charged with longing and sexual tension.

But they didn’t break up for no reason, so it’s also old fights heating up again. But those two have grown older and wiser and it’s beautiful to see them work on the problems they had in the past and not being willing to let the same thing separate them again.

The problem many have with second chance romance is… they did break up. Why am I supposed to believe as a reader, that it’s happy ending now? The author did a phenomenal job portraying both of their character developments. They realize they needed that break to grow as people and be stronger together now.

Their romance was beautiful to read about. It’s feelings and emotions and healthy communication. It’s soulmates meeting again and not being willing to loose each other a second time.

And alongside that pure love blossoming again, you get woman surfer action. Female empowerment. Their fight to get recognized as athletes and not only nice bodies to look at. Serena doesn’t shut up about problems and uses her platform to bringing attention to things like sexism and discrimination in the surfer world.

Overall a highly enjoyable read with captivating writing and an exciting story! I haven’t read any book by Kathryn Nolan before, but im definitely going to check out some now! She knows what she’s doing as an author!

Out of the Blue will go down in Kathryn Nolan history as one of my all time favorites! It has a ton of AMAZING elements I love most- second chance love, a heroine so strong she’s worthy of the role, familial binds born not-of-blood, and all kinds of values born from Kathryn herself exploding through the story. It’s romantic, it’s exciting, it’s steamy, is sad, and ultimately it’s perfect.

My goodness! I'm still in Cope and Serena world right now, and it has left me truly smiling from ear to ear! Once I started, the author sucked me right in, I can't decide what it was about this book that made it so magical for me, there's so much I loved but I'll try to narrow it down to the top handful of reasons I ❤ this one.

First probably what jumped right out was the social commentary. This author never shys away from her hot button issues, especially equality. I admire that about her and love how she portrays that in her books. Serena dominating in a sport made up of good ole boys and want to use her as a prop is a powerful example and I was absolutely here for it! The 'sit still, look pretty, don't make people uncomfortable' mentality has to go!

I loved the environmental aspect as well as I felt it was a true reflection of our times. The backstory of the company not being what it seemed was also compelling and kept me turning the pages too.

Now can we talk about the bickering and back and forth between these two? I mean their chemistry and the electricity between them was absolutely combustible and when they got together...

I really wanted to like this book, have been looking for a good book centered around surfers but this was not it. Dnf at 13%.

First off, the fact that the 2 main characters were still married but the fmc didn’t consider them to be even though she knew no divorce papers had been filed is dumb.

Second, it seemed like the author tried to cram every PC hot topic and environmental issue into this. I don’t need to read buzzwords on every page, it’s repetitive and distracting. I’ve also never read a book where so many characters were described as “white”. Pick a better way to describe a person than just using that over and over again.

By the time the characters did interact, I was already annoyed by both of their actions and their interaction didn’t make me want to keep reading.

Romantic suspense has become my new favorite thing, thanks to Kathryn Nolan.
.
“Out of the Blue” is a second chance romance between Serena and Cope. Cope is a hot AF bodyguard, on his last string at his current job and Serena is a BAD ASS surfer, who just got a HUGE sponsorship. Only problem is….they are estranged husband/wife.
.
I loved these two. I loved the storyline. Kathryn definitely delivers a romantic, frustrating setting that I am absolutely here for. The story takes us through dual POV and I love how their personalities are both stubborn, but they undeniably want the same thing! The wit and the sexual chemistry these two have kept me wanting more and more.
.
Serna and Cope are definitely a couple I enjoyed getting to know and loved their beautiful story. From the strong angst they had in the beginning, stemming from being 2 young people in love to the steamy AF sex scenes, I will say I absolutely loved this read. Kathryn never fails to disappoint me!
