I... was not expecting this one to be such a miss for me. I realized about halfway through that I only like one of these two authors' writing styles (sorry!). One writes more maturely than the other as well.

This read as a bunch of 20-year-olds, not almost 30-year-olds.

This is Holden and Lala (Laney's) story. The nickname Lala made me cringe but beyond that... this storyline was just absurd. Lala's older brother died, but his best friends are still around. They all view her as a little sister, except Holden, who apparently always had a crush on her - and they creepily talk about how he checked her out as a 13-year-old in a bikini when he was 15. Apparently, their relationship flourished from late-night talks on the roof as kids. Fast forward to when he is 30 (she's 28), he gets a letter from his younger self from a school assignment. It told him he should be with her. He knows she's engaged because they shared an intimate dance at a friend's wedding a year before while her fiancé was in the bathroom, but haven't talked since. At all. He calls her and doesn't leave a message. Then she calls him and basically says she is coming to NY for a while for work. He offers her the apartment next door to his. From there - the story just SPIRALS. They cheat without "cheating" but it's pretty ridiculous. She clearly has an attraction to him, but they do not work on their relationship AT ALL. They don't get to know each other at this age, literally, they have really good sex (admittedly that comes after she breaks off her engagement WAY too late in the story) and then are suddenly in love (which also is announced way too late in the story). Oh and they were never safe or careful, so you can guess what else happened.

This entire book was a mindless PWP in my opinion. And I hate saying that, I really do. As always, YMMV, but godspeed.

I have loved Holden since The Rules of Dating. Known as a major playboy and, oh, also, my favorite, a drummer. Holden has always had a crush on his best friend‘s little sister.

Here is the deal, I am not going to go into a lengthy review. This story is touching and emotional, especially when Lala’s brother is mentioned. I loved their story, and it was seriously compelling. I couldn't put the book down.

Holden’s character growth is top-notch. I couldn’t stop laughing at some of the things he said. He may have been slow on the uptake, but he did it for the person he loves.

This book may not be for everyone, and that is okay. Personally, I loved it and how certain situations were handled.

Loved it! So good Cant wait for Owen's Story!

They did it again!! Another PHENOMENAL book from the incredible duo Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. SUPERB storytelling at its finest.

From the moment I started reading this book I knew I was ALL in!! It met all my expectations and MORE.
Holden and Laney are highly engaging, compelling and passionate characters with an interesting, enticing and deeply touching storyline.

The chemistry between these characters was undeniable and when they finally give in to one another it’s FREAKING HOT. Their connection is intense and heart-gripping.
Laney discovers true passion with Holden and it empowers her, it’s simply beautiful!
Holden … boyfriend material …YES YES YES. I love the way he loves Laney.

So if your looking for that FEEL good romance with SEXY times then you will LOVE this book.
Congratulations ladies!! Holden and Laney’s book is REMARKABLE.

The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister is book 2 of The Law of Opposites Attract by authors Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward. It is a standalone, contemporary romance, told from both POV with a HEA.

Tropes:
✔️ Forbidden romance
✔️ forced proximity
✔️ friends to lovers
✔️ love triangle
✔️ opposites attract

Holden Catalano has had a special relationship with one of his late best friend’s younger sister since they were young. But everyone knows that you shouldn’t date your best friend’s sister. Ever.

Now that they’re all grown up and Laney “Lala” Ellison is staying in New York, living right next door to him for a few months, it’s impossible to stay away from her, help her out, hang out and grow even closer. There’s only one problem besides the best friend rule and the fact that he knows he’s not good enough for her, she’s also engaged.

I can always count on Vi and Penelope to write an engaging and this opposites-attract love story is a perfect weekend read that will surely leave you smiling.

Very average, to me. I can get past the emotional cheating for some reason, but the constant miscommunication and fear of expressing feelings makes up far too much of the drama in this book that it becomes frustrating. I'm also not a fan of the surprise pregnancy trope, so anytime that gets thrown in, I'm disappointed.

Lala and Holden were fire right from the get go. Their chemistry was insane.
I love all the forbidden feelings that this story gave me.
Holden has a playboy history and I love that he is complete mush over Lala.
In fact, I found myself getting angry on his behalf for how he was treated sometimes.
I was basically hooked from the beginning of the book and read it straight through.
I did find that about 2/3 of the way through that it felt a little draggy but I enjoyed this book so much.

I think Holden learned that there are no rules to dating your best friend’s sister…that can’t be broken
