Lanie’s brother has the best friends, a close group who are closer than family and would do anything for each other. When her brother dies, the friends make a pact to look out for LaLa. That includes when she comes to NYC on a research grant and needs a place to stay. The problem is she’s staying next door to Holden, her childhood crush, who has been in love with her since they were kids. Now he’s 28, a drummer for a popular band, and the biggest ladies man in New York, and she’s engaged.
I honestly liked this one a lot. The friends really took their commitment to their late friend seriously and look after her like their own little sister. The dynamic is super sweet. And Holden battles everything in him to respect her boundaries, even if he toes the line until it’s safe. My biggest issue with the book is that it gets to the point where they’re just having a lot of sex and the storyline disappears, but it does come back.
Tropes: Friends to Lovers, Childhood Crush, Friend’s Sibling

Great read.
This was a great story, I loved the interplay between Holden and Lala, the chemistry was just jumping off the page! Looking forward to reading about the rest of the guys too, it's going to be fun.

I was hoping that this second book of the series would compensate for my rating of the first book, but I was utterly disappointed. Given Holden Catalano's flirty and witty character, I have expected more fun and twisted plots on this one. But he seemed to have a 180-degree change of who he is since Lala Ellison re-entered his life years later. The first half of the book was slow and I was hoping that it would finally kick in after Lala finally listened to her heart and took the chance with Holden. Sadly, it was still lacking variation in the plot. The steamy scenes were good as always from these authors, but I struggled to feel the intense connection of these two lovebirds. It sucks because Holden is a great guy and deserves a very good book and I loved him in the first one. I also loved the loyalty and friendly banter of the 4 friends and the tidbits of their best friend, Ryan, Lala's brother. Those were some of my enjoyable scenes from this book.
Anyway, I would still push through with the next one, Owen's book and cross my fingers that it would be better this time.

I liked the idea of this book more than the execution. I don't know how authentic this story felt to me... did they really love each other? I did enjoy the epilogue, though. I look forward to more stories from this group of friends.

Meh
Spoilers!
Typical story of girl and boy like each other but do nothing about it until they live next to each other.
Once they move in all bets are off. The FMC is engaged but you never really hear from him much and when you do she is not really excited about it. They never cheat in the way of touching each other but they do check each other out while naked and have phone sex.
Everything is wishy washy between them you can tell they each like each other but it is always about sex between them. I don't get the connection. Spoiler yet again, she ends up pregnant and then everything is ok. They make it work. I have read better best friend lover stories.

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward have written another hilarious, emotional, fun, steamy read that left me laughing out loud (literally) at times, want to smack the characters upside their heads a few times, and had tears in my eyes from a couple of emotional scenes.
Holden and Lala (the story of how she got that nickname was cute) are a forbidden romance that you root for. Not only is she his best friend's little sister (the friend is no longer on Earth), but she is also engaged. She is the complete opposite of Holden - smart, serious, committed to one person. Holden, on the other hand, comes across as a carefree musician (drummer) who lives by the stereotypical musician life of playing the field and not taking anything too seriously.
Fate plays its hand in bringing these two together. And boy, do they fight it! There were many scenes of inner dialogue where these two debate with themselves whether or not their feelings are real, true, and if they had a chance. Of course, life happens and they go their own ways, but are brought together another time in a sweet way.
I enjoyed this story just as much as I know any fan of these authors or this genre will. One-click to take this Holden and Lala ride.

The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister is the second book in The Law of Opposites Attract which is a standalone romance within a series. This is Holden Catalano and Laney “Lala” Ellison’s story. I have to say that I have never been disappointed reading one of these authors' books!
I am going to review this book a little differently by listing out my highlights while reading this TRoDMBFS
1. OMG that letter from Holden’s younger self! Wow, just wow!
2. I loved the bartender's advice to Holden!
3. You show me yours and I will show you mine.
4. My jaw dropped with some news that was given.
5. I was emotionally invested. I got all teary with a part of this book.
What a good story!!! Loved it! 5+ STARS

Sometimes it's complicated.
Lala and Holden have had crushes on each other for years. Things are finally coming to a head, but life is a bit complicated. Holden is a musician with a prospective life on the road. Lala is 'technically' engaged to someone else. Can a relationship this complicated ever have a happy ending?

This books probably should have been called “Everyone Shits on Holden”. His friends treat him like shit. I don’t even know how they are close because the relationships are barely developed and all they do is remind him their dead friend would hate him dating his sister.
Then his band mates pimping him out for a record deal. WTF!?
The parents in this story… haven’t seen him in 5 years supposedly, but “he has a reputation.”
If we are talking about who is worse here, let’s talk about Holden having consensual sex with multiple women who he makes no promises to but a good time and Lala who masturbates to another man while she’s engaged. He’s constantly groveling to Laney like he’s wrong for having emotions about people including her are calling him a man whore.
But you what fixes everything? Babies. Definitely. But first we are going to insult dad by telling him he’s not ready to be a dad right after he tells you independently of this information that he loves you.
There’s more, but I’m just done. I didn’t realize I had already DNF’ed the first books in this series so I will stay away for future ones.
