Great book, a bit heavy but definitely worth reading, the stories used as examples were very interesting in themselves. You can tell a lot of work has gone into the making of this book. Plenty of food for thought, highly recommend, and quite a quick read, got through it in a week. xxx The summary- you can't get rid of a habit BUT you can change it.

This is an interesting book about how our brains work and form habits, and how, through conscious and intentional thought and practice we can change habits. The stories of how habit impact just about every aspect of our lives, were absorbing and thought-provoking. This book is worth reading to consider how we have formed our habits, and how we might change those that don't serve us.

3 stars for first half, 2 for the second. It has some interesting studies it mentions and some useful explanations until the last half. It just seemed like the author has a loose interpretation of what the word habit means. I was utterly unconvinced about 'social habits' most. And it just started feeling really manipulative, especially regarding the target figuring out who is pregnant and sneaking ways to advertise without really recognizing its still creepy even if we don't recognize it. I wouldn't really recommend reading this.

-Need to create a craving for the habit desired - keep same cues and rewards - just replace the craving, changing the auto-behavior
-Figure out what you're doing the undesired behavior for. - learn to recognize it and reward it (is it the act of completing something, physical stimulation, eating because you're bored, finding something entertaining, wanting to relieve stress)
-Rely on God in the difficult/stressful moments that tempt you until the craving goes away- believe things can get better.
-Surround yourself with people who help change or are able to support you.
-Excercise spills over - it bleeds good habits into the rest of your life - focus on cultivating this habit.
-Create a small win
