Jakob is my favorite hangman, and these books are great books for summer reading or guilty pleasure. I read this one in an evening. While formulaic ala Dan Brown, the time period and Bavarian locale makes it a little spicier.

Quite enjoyed this one for what it is. A thrilling little detective action adventure I'd say. Listened to the audible while I built a porch.
A fun mystery with a little bit of suspense to keep you interested. While I did enjoy the book I can't say there was anything especially compelling or gripping about it, just an mildly entertaining story to occupy some spare vacation beach time.
3+ stars. This is book three in the series and I thought that it was better than The Dark Monk (book 2). The series takes place in 1660s Germany. There is a definite action/adventure/sluething component that is fun and I would recommend this book for a nice change of pace.
Note that the books don't need to be read in order. They stand alone fine.

An interesting novel by the descendant of a Bavarian executioner. Lots of cliffhangers. Good characters.
The first book in a series. It was a riveting insight into medieval Germany, especially the treatment of hangmen. Given my nonfiction readings about the time period, everything was fairly historically accurate which is always a plus. You'll fall in love with the head strong hangman's daughter and her forbidden beau, the doctor's son.
Interesting plot and good characterization. Not for the squeamish.
This is the third book in the Hangman's Daughter series. Kuisl receives a letter from his sister, who lives in Regensburg, almost a week's journey by raft. He thinks he is going to see his gravely ill sister, but instead is walking into a setup. Now the hangman is in the fight of his life to prove his innocence. I felt the beginning was a bit slow, but the novel picked up. Very suspenseful in the end. A lot of development for our principle three characters, Kuisl, Magdalena, and Simon.
