I just loved this novel. For one, Bathsheba is fierce. She actually really reminds me of Anne Bronte's Helen Graham. Hardy addresses the issues women face in this time period just as well as he did in Tess of the D'Urbervilles which made me extremely happy. Also I felt like Hardy really manipulated me throughout the book, making me like certain suitors at certain times which I didn't expect at all. I thought I would like one more than the rest but Hardy made me prefer the man who he wanted me to prefer for that point in the story. The setting was lovely and I had heard a lot of people complaining that the descriptions of the scenery were far too long but I completely disagree, I thought Hardy wrote them perfectly. This book was just stunning, I can't wait to read more of his work.

pretty slow + boring at first, but the style of writing is so beautifully done and the love triangle drama made it really interesting
After listening to most of Jude the Obscure and reading this one, I can check off Hardy. No desire to read more.
