So historic fiction mixed with biography seems like an interesting idea. This is the second book in a week that had that same basic theme. Here you also throw in legal drama, which is an interesting twist. I think what I didn't like was the use of modern language and knowing that some of the phrases would never have been said in ancient Rome. What I did like was the ancient Rome aspects and the general idea of the book. I might wait on reading the follow-ups in the trilogy. Harris writes a good book, but I don't know that it's a great book or an intriguing series for me.

I typically do not enjoy political books, but this one is fire! It's set during Roman times when they still had their republic. It's narrated by a slave, Tiro, who because the right hand man to his master Cicero.

I went into this book blind to who Cicero was, and have learned so much and really enjoyed myself! He was a lawyer who was great at speeches and stirring up the crowd! Some of the things said absolutely blew my mind!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys history! I learned a lot about ancient Rome and there were also many correlations between their justice system and ours (America) today.

I'm reading this series with a group who happen to know the historical accuracy and from what they've said, it's pretty spot on! Because of that and how well the book is written, I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could!
