Not my favorite in the series, it might be my bias against the fake dating/relationship trope, but this book was still a solid 3 stars.

I like all the parts of the book that didn't have to do with the main couple - the side characters, the new setting, deeper reflections on the planet's culture, etc. The main couple was meh for me, I didn't really feel the chemistry, but that's me.

I appreciate that the series doesn't dismiss the humans feelings about a new planet and some of them wanting to go back to earth. I know these are fluffy, fantasy reads, but the extra nuance and dimension are a nice touch.

God I LOVE the forced relationship / marriage of convenience tropes and this book handles it so well.

Alongside this, Auzed is the typical grumpy alpha male, with Alex being the perfect sunshine female MC and I just ate up every page.

So far, none have come quite to the love I had for Choosing Theo, but this one is the closest.

This continues to captivate, and as I pass the halfway point in the number of books left I’m dreading getting all caught up because sadly, this author has not written more than this series!

Running parallel to the previous story, this tells the tale of Alex who was braving the wilds of Clecania with Lily, trying to survive on their own for fear of being captured again. They get separated and ultimately, she is saved by Auzed (Theo and Luka’s brother). He’s head guard, and honor and duty mean everything to him. Auzed’s held together real tight, and Alex’s impulsiveness wars with his reserved stoic nature. When he and Alex are caught in another city’s lands, Alex lies that they’re engaged which puts all of them in a precarious situation. Telling falsehoods can be punished and if found out, there could be political consequences for both.

Soooo come on over and try this MF alien/human fated mates series! This time around it’s fake relationships, forced proximity, grumpy sunshine. The interconnected storyline between all books could’ve gotten old fast, but Aveline keeps it fresh, each alien male with his own hangups and tender desires faced with a bewildering human female who breaks down all his barriers and ignites those yummy alpha urges.

Again, Aveline knows how to write some delicious yearnings regarding her heroes as their race has known nothing but loss and desperation all rolled into an unending drive for procreation. Neither the resident females nor the males are allowed to form emotional attachments as their survival depends on everyone cooperating for the good of the whole. One feels for the Clecanians, and it’s an enticing situation as Earthlings offer a chance for everyone’s happiness. It’s certainly a heady mix - a serious topic but interspersed with great romance!

I’m going to be sad when I get to the end of this series. I’ve got 3 books to go, and I want to dive in but avoid it to prolong the goodness. I doubt I’m that strong enough.

Why are emotionally repressed himbo hunks always such a good read??
What I really like about these books is the way the overarching plot is woven into the romance as well as the slight variety of in what moment and how the mating thing pops up.

Off to the next installment and into space we go!
