My love of the first book probably set my expectations for the second SO high because this... although enjoyable was a let down, the first captivated me and had me running to every friend screaming READ THIS but unfortunately I don't have that urge to recommend.
A few things that had me at a loss,
Where was rookes voice? This woman was someone I aspired to be but she lost all her baddassness in this book, she felt timid and lacking in comparison to the first book.
Soren... where to even start, where was the grovelling? I feel like he redeemed himself maybe 40% but rooke just let it go so easily ugh that frustrated me to no end.

I must admit the ending was a shocker and I actually loved how everything came together, I was at the edge of my seat! so I will be reading the next and hopefully it'll bring back my love for this story that I had gained in the first.

We learned a lot in this book. I really like the way information comes around. That ending. Wow. It is still a little long winded like the second book but being a more high fantasy end of romantasy I can deal with that

Oh my!!!
I knew there was a reason I had to take a whole day off before I could read the last 100 pages. Because what the heck is that ending.
Anyway I would totally recommend this book! Loved it! Also take back everything I said about Soren. He is just deeply misunderstood!

6 months later I am still mad about this book. The first few were pretty great, it was my guilty pleasure series but this one was terrible. I won't be continuing the series.

The spelling errors were horrendous, every single page and this book was far too long.

The jealousy and possessiveness was so gross, I couldn't look past it. I also think Soren was forgiven way too easily. The romance is bland. Everyone is powerful and perfect and there is no stakes.

I will say the last paragraph was fun. But it doesn't make up for the other 700 pages.

This no longer reads as a romance to me, but as a fantasy with so much DEPTH and I'm ready to drown in it

I need to re-read all of that now, immediately

The first book set up to be another J Bree masterpiece and this was an unedited mess. This is not the usual standards of this author at all and I’m so disappointed.

You can tell this was rewritten and rewritten - esp when the prologue introduces a new POV and sets up for a big event for that character only for that character to basically not be in the book.

We went from immaculate enemies to lovers to instant love with absolutely no chemistry.

Had to change my review from 3⭐️ to 2⭐️ because the more I think about it, the more I dislike it. I was so excited for this book after book 1 left me REELING, being one of the best enemies to not even lovers I have read in quite some time. Unfortunately I am left extremely disappointed by the direction this book took. There was so much potential and I ended up just feeling underwhelmed. A lot of build up with very little reward. Which pains me because I wanted to love this.

Rooke our FMC who I fell in love with in book 1, completely took a back seat in this book for me. I really wanted to see her make Soren BEG and put up more of a fight with literally everyone that treated her like week old trash. She just overall fell a bit flat and I didn’t connect with her character at all really in this book. Soren on the other hand, who loved to hate in book 1, absolutely carried this book on his back. The jealousy and possessiveness was hot at first but a little over the top and made me cringe more and more as the book went on. However I loved seeing his character grow and develop and really start to come into his own.

I really wanted to love the romance but I felt very little emotional pull towards Soren and Rookes relationship by the time they actually got together. In the beginning they had me giddy but that feeling fizzled out. I wanted more angst and pining from Soren. I loved seeing them build trust with one another but I wanted him to GROVEL!!!

I felt like besides the romance, there wasn’t much else really going on plot-wise. After the 50% mark the book just really dragged for me. I just felt like I was always waiting for something to happen but it never did. There was so much build up leading to the end, but it ended up being very underwhelming. All in all I was just bored, this definitely could have benefited from being 200 pages shorter.

Undecided as to whether or not I will read the next book.
