V confused with the battles/movements of the last 100 pages or so. Bloodwitches vs Reborn vs some were on the regents side but others not? Some throw away lines from 300 pages ago about the history of these different covens turned out to be important, but I didn’t really remember it. I like being surprised as a reader even with the main character, it’s just too much was left out that I couldn’t tell if I just wasn’t paying enough attention or we weren’t being let in on stuff on purpose. Aka the brother’s dead and has been for 200 years? Also kept envisioning Twilight with the giant field scene in the end, because I have no idea what else to imagine.

I knowwww J Bree can write a sex scene from her other series but this falls flat, was excited for the lead up to them being together and it just didn’t deliver. So much build up with no chemistry at all the first book 600+ PAGES, and then he just quickly slips it in during a hot spring bath with minimal fanfare? Then the entire wedding scene, I was too stressed that they’d be attacked/it was a trap that I didn’t even care they were married and the pacing of the smut and envisioning the ceremonies and the transportation to the forest left me confused.

Oh and now Soren after spending like two nights in jail has mastered his magic and has conveniently SO much of it? What? Which like rooke does mention that she doesn’t know how high fae’s magic works, but seemed a bit convenient.

Feel like some things needed to be expanded on and some things shortened. Enough happened to fill the 680 pages, just some of the internal thoughts and endless descriptions of the witch’s markings could’ve been shortened in favor of more explanations of the troop movements and rationale of why they were coming and going from the main castle. Like rooke and Soren were going to a forest to get it to kill the bad witches if they entered, conveniently overhear their goblin pal being yelled at right outside the forest, then Soren goes on a murder binge and then now they’re all stuck going to the capital /detained and somehow the home castle family still is able to find out about it even though the capital castle is supposed to be locked up? And then BAM they’re free? I don’t even know.

Couldn't even finish this one

so good

This was so good! It took me a bit to get into it since I didn’t reread book one first but once I did, it was amazing. It was super fantastical with tons of action and enemies to lovers hotness. There wasn’t as much $mut as I was expecting honestly lol but the TENSION between Rooke and Soren more than makes up for it. That cliffhanger shocked me! I’m very excited for the last book.
