Move over, Hannah Swensen, there's a new baker/amateur detective in town!

This was a delight to read! I LOVE Dani and how she's intelligent and professional and resourceful. My heart breaks for her because of her virtually-nonexistent relationship with her dad. I liked how this book sets the stage for more to come in this saga ... her business, her relationship with her tenants/employees, and her friendship with Spencer, who I absolutely adore. This was a cozy mystery, but it didn't have a lot of "fluff," and I appreciated how there was some substance to this story. It proved to be a quick read for me, and I am planning on continuing to read this series.

Great new series by Swanson! Great characters and a riveting mystery! Dani is starting over and has discovered her happiness in being a personal chef and providing lunches for hungry college students. She’s also having 4 college students room with her. Dani is an interesting, talented, and believable character as are the others in this great read! Fun, engaging read and I hope there will be more in this series!

Everything came too easy. It was annoying to listen to.

Delightfully fun.

3.5/5 stars

This is first book in the new Chef to Go series by Denise Swanson. Loved the book.

Maybe it's because I too am a 29 year old named Dani but I found the main character to sound and behave like a woman at least 20 years older. The college aged characters were also poorly characterized, sounding more like a disconnected adults understanding of "kids these days" than actual people. The changing perspective did not add anything to the narrative that could not have been done another way and I found it more a distraction than anything else. Add to that the lack of recipes, dropped plot threads that are probably meant to be addressed in subsequent books and an anticlimax made for an all around unpleasant experience.
