While the early appeal of the Witcher series was the monster fighting, you begin to be immersed in the world and with the characters. This is the best book in the series so far. The character development and introduction of new characters are lovable and unique. Previous characters we are already familiar with show more of their colors and we get a better understanding overall of their personalities and motivations. Additionally, the individual stories of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri in the last book were not left on very excitable points. But this book tells their stories more making each individual's situation feel suspenseful and impactful. I found myself in previous books wanting to hear more of Geralt as his story was more appealing. But this book had me excited anytime we switched back to someone else's story. I truly felt like the kids at the start of Chapter 7 not being able to decide which story they want to hear next!
