Hoewel ik momenteel nog een paar maanden achterloop met Riverdale, vind ik Riverdale wel een geweldige serie die goed in elkaar zit. De personages zijn uniek, echt en realistisch en hoewel de gebeurtenissen in Riverdale op zijn zachts gezegd bizar zijn, kan ik toch heel erg meeleven. Ik was dan ook erg benieuwd naar dit boek, dat net iets meer inzicht zou geven in wat er aan de serie vooraf is gegaan.
Het eerste wat opvalt is dat het boek heel lekker en vlot wegleest. Ik heb over het complete boek nog geen twee uur gedaan, wat deels komt door de ruime lay out en de hoeveelheid pagina's die in beslag genomen wordt door sms'jes en pamfletten, maar het komt ook door het fijne en natuurlijke taalgebruik, dat heel erg bij de personages past.
En de personages zijn het andere sterke punt van dit boek. Het is duidelijk dat alle kleine dingen die de karakters van Riverdale uniek en eigen maken, ook een plekje hebben gekregen in het boek. Daardoor worden de personages gelaagd en interessant om over te lezen. Er was werkelijk geen enkel hoofdstuk bij dat ik niet niet leuk vond, en er was geen enkel personage waar ik niks mee kon. Persoonlijk had ik graag ook nog iets meer focus op Cheryl gezien, maar je kan niet alles hebben.
Ik merk dat dit boek vooral mijn zin om eindelijk verder te kijken en bij te komen heeft aangewakkerd. Ik hoop er snel de tijd voor te vinden!

After the tv-show went downhill I kinda disliked Riverdale... But this book made me love it again! It was so fun to see what everyone was up to before the tv-show started.

Ok in case you didn’t know, which you don’t. But I love Riverdale. No I am OBSESSED with Riverdale. And I wanted to love this book. But it was mostly mediocre for me. If you have watched the show this book doesn’t give you much of a different story. I definitely love the show and 1000% recommend. But this book isn’t necessary.

Quick Take: Explores the lives of the teenagers of Riverdale before their sophomore year in high school, from Jughead and Archie's falling out and Betty's growing feelings for Archie to Veronica's life in New York City.
Thoughts: I loved the first season of Riverdale but the show doesn't even make sense anymore. But I couldn't help reading a book series based on the show because well nostalgia and all that jazz. It was a good and quick read and I didn't have to worry about bad acting and cringy Archie & Veronica sex scenes. That being said, I think I'll read/listen to the rest of the series for old times sakes.

This could’ve done a lot of a better job bringing in things that we didn’t know and still sticking to the show. I feel like it was pretty below average. Hopefully the other books go with the show better.

I should of paid attention to when the book was released, but being as it’s supposed to be based off the tv series I feel like there were things in the book that contradict the show. However if it was written before certain series I guess that’s a little bit more understandable.

Total fluff with a side of familiar drama. Loved it! It’s always fun to compare the show to the book.
