It's one of the most hyped books of booktok so I obviously bought it. And after 2 years of waiting on my shelf, I finally read it !

The beginning of the book is very gripping with the introduction of the characters then the meeting of the two principals and their relationship which develops. But the end had some lengths and it disappointed me a little. I really expected to cry but in the end I didn't even have tears in my eyes (although it was obviously sad). I think the writting has something to do with it. It's quite simple and sometimes the vocabulary really pissed me off.

It's still a good book, easy and quick to read. But it was, in my opinion, a bit too hyped.

It's me; not you. I try to enjoy YA, I really do, but it rarely works for me. Couple YA with a dystopian setting, and I get the icks pretty quickly. I am all about tone and how a book makes me feel. I need warmth, and dystopian usually makes me feel cold. Plus, I made it through the teen years myself and my children and have no desire to return to the the painful angst of that time. That said, They Both Die at the End is a perfectly well-written book with an interesting premise. If you enjoy dystopian YA it may be a good choice for you, it just wasn't a book for me.  Read if you enjoy: dystopian settings, young adult, books that take place in one day
