Murakami does it again. Once again, he just surprises me with the weirdest of narratives. You mever know what to expect and that is what I like about this author. Every character seems important for important reasons and you keep wanting to read just to see how do they all connect.
I am very interested in art too so this book was interesting. It is not his best work but it was interesting regardless.

Murakami is a really special author. The mystery and sense of development over the course of this novel is amazing. The pace is very slow in my opinion, but not to the detriment of the book. There’s always more questions that I wanted answers to, and I’d think about the events of this book later in the day after I had stopped reading. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5/5 is because of the narrator’s mentions of every female characters’ breasts every SINGLE time they are mentioned (including two children). Sure, there may be some metaphors going on with Mariye’s development, but mentioning a thirteen year old’s breasts twice a page every time she speaks left me with a strange feeling. Other than that issue, this book was on of the most engaging I’ve read in a while. It’s strange because the book is quite long, but I was so invested in this world that I wish there were more to read.

Even weirder than his books normally are. It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t really good. Took me a while to get into it but was also kinda cool once I was reading it consistently. Odd book
"None of us are ever finished. Everyone is always a work in progress."
I enjoyed this book a lot, as I do most of Murakami's stuff. While I was expecting a more conclusive ending (not sure why, as most of his stuff is interpretative rather than conclusive), I enjoyed how imperfect all the characters were. Murakami spent a lot of time talking about breasts, but he does in all his books so it wasn't entirely unexpected. I can see where it would turn people off, though.

I quit 200 pages in. I love nearly everything Murakami has done, but this book was insufferably boring (even by Murakami standards), and I was not emotionally invested in any character.
The introduction of the man with no face in the prologue, the numerous references to time, space and probability in the first 100 pages, and the assemblage of odd and interesting characters, promised much, but for some reason, I felt the story didn’t really develop, but just went on and on and on. It first led to a realization that it really wasn’t going anywhere interesting and then to a feeling that I no longer cared. So sad! It is still Murakami with all the things that made his writing so appealing, and at no time did I feel like abandoning it, but I became more and more aware, as the pages passed, that this was a minor work for me, certainly a novel to read, but not one to savor.
