Warning: this will contain spoilers for people who have not read to this point in the series. Caution is advised.

Gray’s last book Hourglass ended with Bianca dying and turning into a wraith, and Lucas getting bitten by Charity, thus transforming him into a vampire. Afterlife tells of the aftermath of these two events. Lucas and Bianca must find a way to be together, even though wraiths are poisonous to vampires. Lucas is also finding it very hard to control his new vampire bloodlust. Together, they go back to Evernight Academy, where they try to discover the reason Mrs. Bethany is capturing wraiths.

It’s always nice to wrap up a series, and I’m happy that Gray decided to end Evernight where she did. Some series go on entirely TOO LONG, so thank you Claudia Gray.

The conflict in this book really fit with the rest of the series, except instead of Bianca being a vampire to Lucas’s Black Cross (both a danger to each other), Bianca is a wraith to Lucas’s vampire. All around, these pairings are seemingly impossible, but the characters are determined to find a way to make it work. This is where the bulk of dramatic conflict is created to move the plot forward.

This book also added a lot the the wraith mythology, and gave Mrs. Bethany’s back story, which I think was the highlight of the book for me. It made her a much more complex villain, and the story itself was great reading. It makes me excited to know that Gray will be publishing Balthazar’s story in the future, as well.

I have to say that my favorite book of this series, by far, is book one, Evernight. That had the largest element of surprise to the storytelling, and the most originality. The ending of Afterlife seemed a bit weak, and too happy-Hollywood ending for my tastes, but I am glad that things were resolved and the story came to a definite conclusion.

This series was an emotional rollercoaster from the start, Biana really suffered a lo!
I'll have a better review up later tonight with possibly a few gifs, because what is a book review without gifs??
All I can say for now is that I loved this so very much and I can't wait to read about my main man Balty❤

Last one of the series, it was pretty good but fell flat towards the end. I still don’t know if this is a full HEA or know given Bianca is technically dead so props to the author for that because it kinda of is but they are obviously going to have their challenges with life in general.

My Review: So being that this is the final book (I think?!) in the Evernight series, I was hoping it would bring a nice close to things, although I don't really think there were any cliffhanging moments throughout the series (At least not that I can remember...). Overall I was never too thrilled with this series, but the books are definitely quick reads and they're interesting enough for me to read them all.

What I Didn't Like: The whole thing was pretty slow, there were some action packed moments but they lasted only a couple pages and then it just moved on to Lucas moping about his undead state and Bianca wandering the halls as a body-less wraith. Finally within the last 50 pages or so everything picked up and provided a good ending. Also, all the time I'm thinking, why couldn't Bianca be smart and become a vampire and live happily ever after with Balthazar who sounds so dreamy I could cry. Lucas is just whatever to me now. I also got really sick of them constantly trying to have sex and then having it not work out. I really just got annoyed with everything.

What I Did Like: This series has always been different from other vampire books, which I really like. However, this one isn't a vampire trying to be with a human, this one is a vampire trying to be with a human, then dying and becoming a ghost and then the human becomes a vampire and then they try to be together. *breath*. I love the different characters too: Vic, the lovable but goofy best friend; Balthazar, the disgustingly HAWT other guy who then befriends the boyfriend... and also fences; Patrice, the girly girl who can fight her way out of anything without breaking a nail; and Ranulf, the oldest vampire of them all who's just trying to deal with modern day. I loved all of these guys and they constantly made me laugh and were all so loyal to each other. I wish the story focused more on them, because I loved reading about all the other great characters more than Bianca and Lucas.

Overall this was a pretty good ending to a pretty good series.

A weird ending to a weird book. Bianca is just a floating narrator that sometimes has a hard time actually participating in the plot... Also, the whole 'land of lost things' world seems to be too big to include in this kind of vampire story. It felt like a premise for a completely different series.
