Great read and a great listen.
Interesting story that worked really well being told from the main character's perspective.
Looking forward to the next one.

I really did not enjoy this book. The premise is interesting and the initial build-up was interesting ... however, once the plot began to unfold - I found that I was not really into the story at all. I found parts of it melodramatic and the certain scenes, unnecessarily disturbing. There was this very strange uncomfortable, predatory vibe that wove its way through this book - I have a hard time pining down what exactly caused this - but it was possibly a combination of various things like ever present exes, inappropriate workplace relationships etc. I don't know ... I expected something quite different and this didn't really work for me ...

like the alien rape scenes,
"I sat there on the flooded floor of the isolation room, with my arms wrapped around a slimy war hero wearing nothing but a blanket, wondering if I was a dead man or not."
'Dark Space' is my first experience with a science-fiction book by Lisa Henry. It's a genre that is near and dear to my heart, as I started reading it at a very young age. So, to combine that love with an author I've come to admire, respect, and adore, almost had me needing a paper bag a few times while reading. Seriously. I got so excited, I practically hyperventilated. Luckily for y'all, I managed to keep my cool so I could write my review.
This is not an easy review to write, no matter how much I loved the book. There is a lot of information, although the author makes it appear seamless, and a huge potential for spoilers, which I'm reluctant to divulge. So, I'm going to start with the two main characters. Brady Garrett is three years into his ten year military term, which began at sixteen when he was conscripted, and stationed on Defender Three. Can you imagine being a scared, sixteen-year-old kid, suddenly stationed out in space, where you can't see the sun, all you can see is black, and you feel as if there's practically nothing between you, and getting sucked out into the void. Cameron Rushton was twenty-two four years ago, a lieutenant, and a pilot for the military, when his transport was attacked by the Faceless, all members killed, and Cam taken hostage. Suddenly, Cam has been returned, in a strange Faceless technology pod, and no one knows what to do.

It was interesting, but the whole telepath aspect to the romance/erotism was not for me.
I don't think I can define Lisa Henry. Admittedly, I don't have much experience with M/M novels, but what she writes can always catch me from all angles. The prose is right, the story's captivating, sexy, romantic. The feelings are all there. If I had to pick one thing I didn't like, . I like the development, though, and how things can work when well written.
I'll lowkey miss reading Brady's POV.
Spoiler
I'd have to say that gay-for-you stories annoy me a little bit. I understand how it makes sense in the context, but still... it's not something I enjoyI'll lowkey miss reading Brady's POV.
If you are looking for a good M/M Sci-fi romance this is it. It perfectly balanced both the sci fi and romance. The characters were distinctive and believable. The spice was good, not too much but still enough. I really enjoyed this. It felt like a standalone but if it is a series I will probably read more. Great read. Narrator on audibook was fantastic too.
Second try, I keep seeing raving good reviews so I decided to try again, but no, this still makes me vomit.
