Second try, I keep seeing raving good reviews so I decided to try again, but no, this still makes me vomit.
Sexy Sci-Fi
I think this is the hottest Sci-Fi Romance I've ever read. Hooooly. Yaas!
Lisa Henry took the "Abducted by Aliens" trope to a whole new level.
It's an older book so there are a ton of wonderful, detailed reviews. That lets me be lazy and just say that if you like MM Romance and you like Sci-Fi, then you REALLY SHOULD read this book.

Yesssss
So amazing, loved the couple. I would love to see more of the faceless though. Loved this book so much.

Yep, did so love. All awesomely sci-fi and touching romance. Loved this book lots and lots. There were a lot of fun things about this world. I really felt for Brady drug off to fight a war he has no interest in, only wanting to do his time and get back to Earth as quickly as he can to take care of his little sister. His entire world was tossed into chaos with the return of Cameron from his abduction by the alien Faceless.
I adored the way that Cameron and Brady were connected. The whole you are my heartbeat thing...so melting right now. I felt for Brady and his confusion and fear. His anger and helplessness at the world was totally understandable. It was easy to forget at times how young Brady is. So much has happened to make him grow up to fast, but his fears still resound in his young soul. Cameron is such a dear man too. He's been through so much but he still cares about the fate of humanity and wants to do what's right.
Fantastic story and I'm super duper glad there's a sequel.

Very important question first: Is it worth reading the other two books as well?
I don’t know how I was able to read the book so quickly, but it was somehow really well written? (I kind of didn’t expect it to be that way).
I also really liked the setting and the idea of „I am your battery“ → That was really exciting and I would have liked to experience it more intensely (not in a sexual sense). Maybe that’s why I liked the beginning so much, because it was just very intense and strange and creepy and fascinating.
It quickly became too sexual for me (it really didn’t have to be Q_Q) and somehow I just didn’t feel the connection between our main characters. I just didn’t get more than the „I’m your battery“ connection.
On a purely logical level, I can totally understand that something so intense, where you share thoughts and feelings and memories, leads to feelings, but as a reader that fell short somewhere.
I thought the thing with the aliens was pretty cool, even if the sexual part annoyed me a bit and the aliens were generally too human for me - in terms of looks and just the sex thing.
So, I thought it was really good, I just didn’t buy the love thing and even though we had trauma and everything, there was too much sex stuff. There’s simply more potential than just sex ûu:‘)

I am *OBSESSED*. Couldn't put this down. I'm a sucker for the v specific trope of telepathic soulmates, and while this isn't about soulmates per se, the telepathic link, and tender connection is there, all while everything else is complete chaos and violence and I LOVE IT.
The two leads in this story, are Cameron and Brady.
Cam, lives to be in space. He loves it. He's also a beautiful soul. All sunshine. I love him. The End.
Brady, hates outer space. Life molded his dark, pessimistic soul. Cams exact opposite. I love him too though.
Brady hates space and is terrified of the Faceless, an alien race that pretty much desimated earth. Brady's biggest nightmare is being captured by the faceless lie Cam those years before, and it's a common topic among the guys in the station. Even as a kid, he remembers being terrified of the faceless and too scared to even stargaze with other kids.
Unfortunately in space, working in the direct line of defense between Earth and said aliens is exactly where he is, serving his mandatory 10 year time in the military.
It's all dudes b/c naturally females have to re-populate the earth (puke. so realistic though) and the overall atmosphere is less than stellar. He keeps his head down, and while he's friendly with a few guys, he has never made any friends. No ties to the place or the people.
With nothing left to do but get his job done and countdown the days until he can return home, he does just that. He doesn't wish to rise in rank, doesn't want to complete medical training - he wants there to be no reason for him to remain connected to military at the end of his service. Period.
Cameron Rushton is never far from his or anyone else's mind though.
No one knows what happened to poor Cam, they assume he is dead. Tortured. But the government of course used his story to support the propaganda. His smiling face is on every poster that hands all over the place, in the station and on earth.
One day, the man, the myth the legend reappears. Delivered in a pod with Faceless tech that humans do not understand, Brady is requested to help release him. Long story short - the goo in the pod keeping Cam Rushton alive gets into Brady. Brady and Cam not only gain a telepathic link from that, but Brady essentially becomes Cam's battery. Without a battery, he dies. Simple as that.
Cam is important. His face is on every poster remember? Brady can't hide in the background anymore. He's officially needed in a very obvious, very critical way. He's pissed. Snaps at Cam alot. The worst part though is he is getting Cams PTSD flashbacks and nightmares from time with the Faceless.
Sounds weird, but it's SO SO SO GOOD. So good. And the faceless are TERRIFYING. SO creative.

Join the Military and Save the Earth. Bullshit. They probably just couldn’t fit Join the Military and Become Fucking Cannon Fodder for Aliens on the posters. Or Join the Military and Get Abducted and Fucked-Up by Faceless Nightmares in Ways You Can’t Even Imagine. I mean, look at Cameron Rushton. We were just talking about Cameron Rushton. We usually were.

I looked away from the poster, from that smile. Whatever had happened to Cameron Rushton, I’ll bet his smile was the first thing they took. Four years ago Cameron Rushton was taken by the Faceless.

I love to read sci fi from time to time and this one was really good. I really loved the premise and the setting. The scene towards the end (won’t say which for spoilers) got me so choked up and close to crying.
I just wish there was more world building. So many unknowns and unanswered questions. I know there are more books in the series so I’m hopeful I’ll get answers eventually.

i don’t have the words to explain the sheer amount of anger this book caused me but the underlying feeling is that i regret ever learning how to read
I just didn’t connect with this one: the relationship between the MCs didn’t feel like real love, just a forced bond; and I skimmed over the sex scenes because they felt more coercive than consensual.
Don’t think I’ll be reading anymore of this series, but I would read more from Lisa Henry, because, as much as the relationship didn’t feel real to me, her writing really drew me in.
