I don’t know why I read this. First and last book with a real man on the cover. It was just alright. Wasn’t attached to any of the characters after 389 PAGES and the plot was underwhelming at best. It tried so hard and failed miserably. I change my rating to a 2. Since no one warned me, please don’t read this

I am not a sci-fi girlie. I have tried to read sci-fi stories in the past but they just didn't hold my interest. That was before I read Dark Space. This is a FANTASTIC story that I couldn't put down. To put it mildly, Brady has not had an easy life, and Cam's couldn't be more different—at least until he was taken by the Faceless. But in Cam, Brady finds a piece of himself he didn't know he was missing, and in Brady, Cam finds his heart (kind of literally?). The forced proximity premise, where they have to touch for Cam to survive, is a refreshing twist on this trope. This is a great start to an awesome trilogy.

5 Stars

Very interesting concept and world. The irrational fear was hard to swallow, as was the 19 year old brain, but I have high hopes and I liked the world a lot!

3.5 stars

I enjoyed this! The world building was good, the plot was very interesting and I liked both characters.

I didn't expect the ending tbh. I thought it would go to a totally different route.

The narrator did a good job as well and I enjoyed his performance.

Well holy crap.

I loved it. Just loved it.

This was just a wonderful book. Everything was so clear in my mind that I might as well have been watching a movie. You know what my biggest problem is? And it’s a big one. It’s that I finished reading it.

Honestly there is nothing that I can fault about this book.

Brady and Cam are just wonderful characters. I loved how and why their relationship developed, that connection was just fantastic and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I adored Brady, he is so strong and the world has played him such shitty hands and even though he is angry he is also brave and old beyond his years. I never once felt the age difference between him and Cam, mainly because Brady had to grow up so very fast at such a young age.

I’m crushing hard on Cam. I think it’s the hair. But aside from his amazing hair it’s got to do with the fact that he is also very strong and he is also very brave but he does not carry the anger that Brady carries even though he has had some horrible things happen to him as well. There is a beautiful kindness in him and the fact that he kept his humanity after four years with the Faceless is amazing. Yeah. I’m crushing hard on Cam.

Just wonderful. Read it. You will not regret it.

a little sad that centuries into the future, in space, and we still can't escape internalized (and externalized) homophobia

EDIT: 30/12/2023
Still as painful as the first time and just as great SIGH

2.5 rounded up, which should tell you how much I actually enjoyed the book other than the bits I really fucking hated.

Y'ALL, I am disappointed. Not only with Lisa Henry, but with everybody whose rave reviews I read where not ONE OF THEM mentioned the gratuitous and unnecessary ALIEN RAPE. I'm sorry, what? Were none of y'all squicked the fuck out by it? Did none of y'all think it was an entirely ridiculous, gross, and self-indulgent bit of fuckery that could have easily been replaced with something less violating and had no impact on the story line other than significantly reducing the number of rapey dream memories I had to read about? I'm so disappointed because I went into this fully thinking I'd love it and it'd be right up my alley based not only on the summary, but the reviews, and was absolutely blindsided by the rapey shit and it really ruined what was otherwise a really interesting and engaging read. I liked the characters and the concept and their connection, but OMG I honestly can't get over "the alien had to fuck me to reinforce our telepathic connection even though they view our race as pond scum (who doesn't want to fuck pond scum??) and he drugged and raped me the first time but it's okay because he's an alien who doesn't know any better and after that it became really amazing sex and I'm quite fond of the alien I now call master and we fuck even after I fall in love with Brady because I have no choice but I enjoy it so it's okay". WHAT THE FUCK?! I am so shook that literally none of this came up in the many reviews I read. Did I read a different book???

Also, the ending was far too rushed and neat and unsatisfying, especially after all that fuckery. It ends happily, but we go from being kidnapped and fucked by this alien master race for eternity to both characters happily on earth in half a chapter. I had whiplash.

I'm super torn on continuing with the series because I can't trust reviewers now and I don't want more stockholm syndrome alien rape bullshit.
dark emotional mysterious sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

i'm honestly sad this wasn't a romance between a human and an alien, but forced proximity and telepathy bonding is still
