This is a stand alone I believe. He's written a series with Harry Hole (pronounced Hooley) as main policeman. But I read this one first and thoroughly enjoy edit. Funny smart (but bloody) and completely surprising at the end. The movies fun too but read the book first.

Fast paced thriller with a twist. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought this book was ok- I really really wanted to love it, and several friends recommended this book and anything written by Nesbo. It was an entertaining read- a bit far fetched at the end, but didn't make me want to read another one of his books. I heard they made this into a movie, and I'm curious to see how it translated to the screen. I will eventually give his Henry Hole character a shot, but this one didn't make me want to do that immediately.

This story is well crafted but not as well written as the author's Harry Hole series I enjoy so much. I think the protagonist is interesting but kind of awkward to relate to. He has too many personality faults and does too many bad things to really like him, but he is not hard-edged or ruthless enough to accept as a full anti-hero.

Hmmm. This was a diversion from my current non-fiction book which is interesting but best read in divided chunks. I've heard very good things about the film version (which I've not yet seen) and loathe as I am to buy film tie-in versions, it was very cheap. Which is about right.

It starts off with promise, despite our somewhat smug main character not being quite the Danny Ocean he thinks he is. Still, a chance encounter and a rare painting set the scene beautifully for him to end up way too deep in the shit. Literally.

It's at this point that logic and reality say 'ta ta' and we're left with a somewhat rushed thriller, some quite unlikely circumstances, and quite a marked change in character for Roger. It subsequently turns out the whole focus is different than expected (well, not that unexpected really), twists pile on twists and we get to the point where we need two separate explanatory concluding chapters to explain it all.

It's all a bit silly but enjoyable enough guff, plus quick and easy to read, brief and shallow as it was. If you have nothing better to do and some time to kill...go rent the movie.

Pretty entertaining. An antihero that you end up rooting for. I got sucked in quickly and really enjoyed it.

I love the Harry Hole series, but this book was waaaaaaaaay too gross for me. Objectively I can definitely see the skill required to write this plot with style, but subjectively... yuck. I think someone blurbed it saying it was a witty caper in the vein of Tarantino or the Coen brothers, and that is EXACTLY what it reminded me of. So if that's your sort of thing, you'll probably love it. Me, I'm sticking with Inspector Hole.
