Superb thriller!

Not sure what's going on with nordic crime writers. Just like the Girl w/ Dragon Tattoo books, these are some messed up characters! Our protagonist is, at best, an asshole. At worst, borderline sociopathic. And he's the good guy! This was kinda a page turner, but the twist at the end is totally unacceptable. You can't have us in the character's head, getting first-person narration the entire way through the book then have a GIANT piece of plot happen off-stage and have a big "a ha, but what you, dear reader didn't know is I was actually doing something else.." moment at the end.

DID NOT FINISH: 11%

Not for me un hauling

Brilliant thriller. Short but full of twists and i actaully think i preferred it to the girl with the dragon tattoo in the nordic thriller stakes.

I've got to say this surprised me. I went into it not expecting much because it was the first novel by Jo Nesbo I had read. It did start of slow but enticing enough to keep me going. There were surprises that felt smaller than I expected but then amassed into a beauty of a puzzle. Wonderful book that kept me on my toes and oh so delightfully confused. Would definitely recommend.

This book is not my usual type of thing. The characters are cartoonishly amoral and the plot is often crass (people running around covered in excrement, for instance). Midway through the book, I realized what a mistake this reading experience was for me, but by then I was curious to see how it would end. Glad it's over.
