It was interesting but I was not wowed by it. Definitely something to read that is fast paced and intriguing.
mysterious slow-paced
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No

This book was just “eh”. It was a slow read, the characters weren’t likable (don’t even get me started on the kids), it was unbelievable, too many story lines, and then the ending was wrapped up quickly. The story finally started to speed up on page 360 but the ending was a bit unbelievable and you didn’t get full closure. It just seemed like a lot of random elements were thrown in that didn’t need to be. Also characters’ personalities changed and they did actions that had didn’t make sense for the personality/past actions we were shown. I wasn’t invested and it just made for a disappointing read.

Paranoid was written by Lisa Jackson, released by Kensington Books on June 25, 2019. I was given a free copy by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

20 years ago a group of idiot teenagers played a ridiculously stupid game, and Rachel was blamed for killing her step-brother Luke. Now, with the 20 year anniversary upon them and the creation of their high school reunion committee, people from that eventful day have started getting murdered. Rachel has lived her life filled with guilt, even though she was eventually acquitted. She starts receiving text messages from an unknown number. Is she being paranoid, or is everything happening in the town related to that fateful day when Luke was killed?

This was a good book, but I had problems with it. There were a LOT of main characters. It wasn't always the easiest to keep them straight. The kids were complete and total idiots. I get that teenagers are dumb, but the ones featured in this book were unbelievably stupid. There also seemed to be a lot of plot holes and shortness of plot with the teenage characters, probably because there was already so much focus on everyone else. The book also felt about 100 pages too long. There wasn't enough action justifying the plot being dragged out like that.

I liked the story. The premise was super interesting. I just didn't like the resolution or 95% of the characters.

This was my first book by Lisa Jackson and all I can say is that she really delivers! Suspense, mystery, multiple points of view and creepiness. The writing was great and I was hooked immediately.

Waste of time.

2.5* meh

What I liked- The beginning was so strong and got me engaged. The setting was also great
I loved that it was set in an abandoned canning factory the creep factor was turned all the way up. The twist with the dad was also good but was also weird.

What I didn't like- Everything besides the beginning.
I hated how this novel started with two murders and then died down to "my family is falling apart". I also didn't like the twist with the nephew being the killer, it was too predictable.
The rest of the novel felt very meh and the ending was not exciting.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this book and was pretty let down.

This was so bad that I’m actually shocked.

This mystery at the center of this book is one that is quite terrifying! I loved the different POV's and the small town setting. Jackson does a great job at making each character relatable while you suspect them all. The twists and turns of it all were wonderful.

This would have a 4-5 star review if it weren't for the fact that I figured out who did it about half way through. Otherwise I enjoyed the book, my first one of hers.
