An unconventional, yet delightful, coupling. Lots of chemistry, plot developments, and interesting characters. A great start to a new series.
Professional hockey player Eric Bayer’s brother Max runs a security company that is responsible for protecting Alex Engels, a childhood friend of Eric’s that he hasn’t seen in 21 years and the CEO of a cable company about to launch a new product. Max tricks Eric into being Alex’s body guard for a week long conference in Hawaii where he’ll actually be pretending to be Alex’s boyfriend. It’s a tropical vacation with a hint of danger, fake relationship, and only one bed! (And plenty of

Moonlighter felt like a very different (not in a bad way!) Sarina Bowen book. It's more a romantic suspense book than the contemporary romances she's known for.
It was great! I'm really looking forward to reading the next Company book to get the next piece of the hacker plot!
I really loved the dynamic between Eric and Alex. Their dialogue was sharp, witty, and so enjoyable to read.
Eric is such a great guy. My only complaint is that I wish we could have learned more about how Eric is so great at security and using a gun/disarming people, etc. I know he says he grew up around it, but he's a professional hockey player. Did his dad and brother formally train him at some point? What other kinds of things has he done for The Company?
My other complaint is the ending seemed a little abrupt. The whole book Eric is thinking about his knee and what it all could mean for his future and then suddenly the decision happens and boom, new career. I would have liked to see him talk with Alex about all the options he was presented with and see how he felt about each one.
Final thoughts: Alex is a badass. The sled scene cracked me up.

I have enjoyed every Sarina Bowen book I have read but Moonlighter might be my new favorite! I loved Alex and Eric. I loved that they had a history (and it was mostly good). My favorite aspect of the story is that Alex was a high powered, professional woman whose career was actually more impressive than the male lead’s. Eric was also a great character. I enjoyed that we got some hockey in the story but it wasn’t a main part. I can’t wait to read more of this new spinoff series!
I stepped away from my binge of the Brooklynaire series to grab Eric Bayer’s story. I really wanted his story after Heidi has to take care of him after his first knee surgery and his story did not disappoint. He is every bit of the good guy you want him to be plus he has a side of him that you’d never guess from his role as a hockey player. His dad has long been in the security business and his brother followed in his footsteps. Both were raised with security and mad skills in their blood. So it’s not much of a stretch when you find this out for the hockey player to play bodyguard.
Eric Bayer gets a call from his obnoxiously intelligent brother who owns a super secretive security firm with their dad. Coming for lunch, Eric is ambushed by Max into bodyguard duty during the hockey off season. His mark is a blast from his childhood, a girl who he spent a memorable summer with. Alex (who we met in Brooklynaire) has a problem and needs help. They end up leaving for Hawaii together and sparks fly. But what other secrets does Alex have?
I really liked the romance aspect of this book. It was sweet, steamy, and fit well with the plot. I loved the action and slight suspense of this story. I enjoyed Alex’s stubbornness and how Eric stepped up to help her when she needed it and wouldn’t admit she also needed him too. Their story all came together perfectly in the end, but I feel like I was missing a little bit of the resolution of the issues with Alex’s company. Overall, this was a fun and action filled romance and I loved that Eric had hidden skills. Who can resist a man with skills?!?

I love overlap in series if they are done well and this one is.
We have a member of the Bruisers who ends up helping out his family security business by playing bodyguard to his crush from childhood.
I really liked that this book has a pregnant heroine. She tells the hero in the beginning.
I love a good bodyguard/ guarded romance. This one is also a friends to lovers.
