Very interesting read. It was cool to read a book in such a different format, but also led to be hard to get into at first. Many twists and turns, but didn't shock me as much as expected and left some loose ends.

3.5 ☆ for Murder In The Family by Cara Hunter.

okay. wow. this is my first Cara Hunter book and i can't say i'm disappointed.

a cold case is reopened. six experts are trying to solve it. the trick? everything is filmed. and no one seems to be telling the full truth.

Luke Ryder was killed on a cold December night. his stepson, Guy Howard, who was 10 at the time but is now an acclaimed filmmaker, decides to solve the mystery of his (very young) step father's murder through a Netflix true crime series, Infamous - by gathering a small group of professionals in hopes the investigation could finally solve this 20 years old mystery.

in full honesty, this book gripped me right from the first chapter. the writing was smooth, and the mixed media format definitely played a huge role in my excitement - who doesn't love looking at 'evidence' instead of being told it?

however i will admit - i did find myself confused at multiple times while reading. first, there are so many characters. do you know what that means? so many names to remember! all with their own suspicions AND suspicious behaviors! and not only that, but the plot is sort of convoluted. lots of red herrings, but also the plot twist is not a simple one. sort of all over the place and when you think you sort of got a grip on what's happening, NOPE! Hunter throws another twist at you.

as far as the ending goes, i've seen a bunch of mixed opinions. obviously no spoilers, but i cannot decide if i liked it or not. sort of rushed if i'm being honest, but the absolute last twist did leave my jaw hanging open in shock. so there's that.

I enjoyed the plot of this book but unfortunately the formatting on Kindle made it very difficult to read - especially the ending, which is kind of crucial. I imagine would be much more enjoyable in paper form. Good standalone, interesting presentation in the script / newspaper excerpt form but hard to follow on my version of Kindle.

I inhaled this book in a day at work. I loved the premise and they set it up really nice too with the documentary series format. There’s still a lot unsaid and there is a bit of reading between the lines at the end.
