There is only one way to "read" one of Dolly Parton's books...it is to listen to it. Dolly narrates all of her books. When you read her books you miss out on Dolly's joy, tone, cadence, and voice. This book is even more so.. since they cut in with the songs she is talking about.

I am rating this book a 5 because the other biographies I have read of Dolly still stand out in my mind (one I listened to 15 years ago too)

emotional funny inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

What - a collection of stories based around her inspirations and song creating process.
How- was very open honest and witty.
True- reps, not everything is a gem. Have to get all the ideas out there and that’s what allows her to make good ones.
What of it - it was lighthearted but refreshing wisdoms.

I really liked this one! It did however just feel like Dolly talking in an extended interview, but she gave so much detail about her life. This was exactly as the title described, "my life in lyrics". She went through a lot of her song catalog and told us more about it. I felt like every time I listened I got to learn even more from her. It maybe helps that she sounds like some of my family with the "holler voice", so I felt very content just listening to her talk.

I would recommend this to those who have had heard her music or would just like to hear her talk. There's a reason Dolly Parton is a household name, and the audiobook just helped you feel a little closer to Dolly.
