I listened to the audiobook. It was like listening to Dolly Parton sitting at the kitchen table telling me the story of her life. Then I had to get a hold of the book for the wonderful photographs. Very enjoyable.
Good back story to some of her songs, but I wish they played more of the songs rather than quick snippets.
I didn’t grow up listening to or following Dolly Parton so this book nor her songs do not have as much meaning to me. I loved her narration as she’s a delightful human and I’m glad I listened to it but I’m sure it’ll mean much more to those that grew up listening to her.
3.5’ish star range, didn’t feel like a learned a ton of new background after watching some Dolly doc with similar info, but the format of the audiobook and hard copy are perfect for her fans!

DEFINITE recommend
Okay, there is nothing about Dolly Parton that I don't love! Note - I have loved Dolly since high school when her duet with Kenny Rogers, "Islands in the Stream" came out.
But, this audiobook was just lovely. It has Dolly singing a cappella, explaining her lyrics, and the recorded version of the song would also sometimes play. Dolly calls herself a "songteller" - a songwriter who tells stories. It is an apt description for Miss Dolly!
I love listening to it, but I would also love to check out the print version as it sounds wonderful too with all of the pictures!

An absolute delight. Her catalogue is incredible—I just want some Spotify playlists to go along with the book.
