If you love Dolly you’ll love this book!

Dolly narrates the audiobook and it's the format I recommend.

I don't typically read non-fiction books, especially not autobiographies/memoirs, but this was an interesting read. The format of the book was interesting and I loved all the pictures they included. Dolly Parton is not one of my top favorite artists, but I do enjoy her work, both musically and otherwise, so I don't regret reading this one. Just wish that maybe the damn thing wasn't so enormous. Made it hard to find space/time to read it because it needed so much room just to open and holding it to read it was not happening.

We don’t deserve her.

I bought the book so I could see the photos, and read the full lyrics to the songs mentioned in the book. (A very small portion of the large catalog she has produced). I googled the songs to listen to them as I read the lyrics. I also listened to the audio book to hear her voice as she discusses several of her songs. Knowing that she was able to produce so many iconic songs and own the publishing rights from her work in an industry ruled by men is admirable.

It was great to learn more about Dolly’s life and the inspiration for her songs.
I had put the physical book on hold and when I picked it up it was huge and not something I could read in bed, so I listened to the audiobook. I recommend listening vs reading; it was a better experience as you hear song clips and it works for the interview style of the book with the narrator prompting her responses.

I could listen to Dolly talk about anything for hours and hours and hours. She's truly the most adorable, genuine and sweet woman. I leanrt a lot about her music from this book and discovered new songs from her.
