I listened to this "book" and the reason why I'm giving it 3/5 stars is because while it was enjoyable to listen to Dolly talk about her life and her songwriting practices this was essentially a lengthy interview style production for someone who hasn't done an extensive deep dive into Dolly Parton's life and/or career. A fine enough treasure of Dolly in her own words, and of course the side of Dolly she allows access to in her own telling of her life.
I love Dolly, but unfortunately this format didn't work well for me. It's only 5hr long though so not a huge time investment. It's setup so that a snippet of a song would play and then Dolly would talk about it. A lot of her commentary was repetitive across different songs. I would have preferred if she talked first (and longer for some of the songs) and then played the entire song.
I'M GOING TO LIST THE TOP 4 REPEATED COMMENTS BELOW. DON'T READ THEM IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW.
1. She was influenced by her Tennessee mountain upbringing.
2. At least half the songs are her favorite.
3. She is able to think/write like a man.
4. She/her lyrics are very clever.

Maybe even a 4.5. I’m not a huge country music fan, but I love Dolly. This was a good mix of song lyrics, history, and personal background. I kind of wish the book wasn’t so big. Great for the imagery, but not as easy to hold/read in my favorite reading spots.
such! a! delight! Dolly is one of the best people we have
This was more of an interview than a book. It was enjoyable but not what I expected. I love Dolly and she is always just so herself. I enjoyed learning more about her and her life as well as where a lot of her inspiration comes from.
Love Dolly and loved listening to her on this audiobook! Can’t wait for us to be able to enjoy live music again someday - going to see her live in concert again is high on my list.
I was instantly captivated by this audiobook narrated by Dolly Parton herself, one of country music’s most beloved icons. Filled with personal stories about her family, upbringing, and musical journey, it felt like having a heartfelt conversation with a dear friend. The audiobook transitions seamlessly between Dolly’s personal memories and snippets of her decades of songs, reflecting on their meaning and reminding us all why Dolly Parton remains an iconic figure whose music transcends generations.
4.5 stars rounded up.
Dolly is such a wholesome, charismatic, genuinely good human being. Even though her music isn’t something I regularly listen to, I’m in awe of her talent and success as a songwriter and performer. She’s just so likable, so talented, and so good natured and generous.
I listened the audiobook, and I enjoyed the clips of her music and the little interviews that accompanied them. I’m not sure how this would have felt if I read it myself; it’s definitely built for narration.
A few of the stories and anecdotes were repetitive, but mostly they were just pure humorous, honest, heartfelt, and down-to-earth Dolly. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I love her so much!! I have to say I can't imagine what this would have been like as not an audiobook. Listening to her talk about everything was so calming and nice. Another review I read said it felt like listening to a long interview and that's exactly what it was. Curious what the experience with a physical book would be like. Anyway Dolly is perfect thank you for my Moderna vaccine queen <3
