The audiobook of this is incredible. It really brings the vision of Dolly's songs to life.

Wonderful (as expected) as an audiobook- read in interview format with song snippets throughout. I definitely want to read the hard copy just to see the photos though.

perfect for any Dolly fan in your life. A musical history of Parton by Patron through her discography.

I listened to the audiobook version of this & adored it, it was perfect to hear Dolly tell the stories herself and brilliant how they clipped the songs throughout. I just so happened to listen to this one my way to and from Nashville to The Smoky Mtns so it really set the tone for my trip! I adore Dolly even more now!

DID NOT FINISH: 26%

Interview style just wasn’t compelling for me, was hoping for memoir.
slow-paced

I listened to the audiobook. I hate to say it, but this one was a miss! There were some interesting tidbits on her songs that could be worthwhile to someone with an extensive knowledge of her catalog.

The editing, however, was interesting in a not so good way. Dolly's narration felt like a stream of consciousness that hadn't been planned out beforehand and could have benefitted from some editing afterwards. It seems like there was someone interviewing her, but their questions were cut out and a voice over was added to tie things together, albeit poorly. The result is a rather disjointed collections of feeling random anecdotes. I'd be curious to see what the physical book is like.

A hard-core Dolly fan might still appreciate the book for its background on song and stories from her life, but a casual fan likely wouldn't make it past the disorganization.

I love Dolly Parton and this was a fun audiobook to listen too. I'm not sure if the text version of the book was different, but this was essentially snippets of Dolly's responses to various interview questions. While I enjoyed listening to her stories, I felt like this lacked the substance I was hoping for. The audiobook is filled with her music though, so that was kind of worth it!

This book is very well done. I was impressed with the number of full color photos--and they're big enough to see! I love the lyrics and Dolly's description of the stories behind the songs. This is a large book, but very easy to read. And there is a song index in the back if you only want to read about a specific song.
