Dolly Parton’s music wasn’t what I heard throughout the house growing up and I’ve realized over the past couple of years that I really don’t know anything about this (now I believe to be remarkable) person! Working in a library, her name comes up more often than one might think in regards to her Imagination Library. After listening to the recorded book, I feel that Dolly is a simple yet fascinating person, and now I want to know more! I enjoyed the way this audiobook is laid out, almost a cross between a podcast, a traditional audiobook and an interview. It felt more cozy and made Dolly seem even more relatable. I can definitely see why she is idolized by so many. The snippets of song lyrics gave the book the extra component of making it feel so real. Would recommend, especially to those who know nothing of this resilient woman.

There is a lot to love about this book. In audiobook form, it's basically an extended interview with Dolly about her songs. I am intrigued to see how this compares to the physical book, which I'd like to get at some point for the photos if nothing else. That being said, it sounds like there's not much more meat on the bones of the book edition, which I think is a little bit of a shame. Dolly's comments on her songs, especially as told by the woman herself in the audio, are charming and fun and interesting. Her interview portions are linked by narrative by a male voice who is uncredited but sure sounds like Rob Lowe to me? All that being said, getting through 100 songs in the span of five hours means that one might be left wanting more. There were just some songs I wished we'd gotten a little more insight into. That being said, what we are given here is well worth your time even for the most casual Dolly fan.

I recommend listening to the audiobook for this. She sings the song lyrics as she goes into the details of the song. I love Dolly and am happy to be alive during her time.

I enjoyed this book so much. I always love the way Dolly Parton reads her books for audio. And finding out some of the behind the making of some of her songs was very interesting.

If you love Dolly Parton or her songs, you will enjoy this book. Dolly is a prolific songwriter and this book shares insights into the way her songs came to be. Whether it’s how she thought of the lyrics, melodies, or inspiration, the information is entertaining and illuminating. We are so lucky to have this national treasure and her beautiful songs as part of the soundtrack to our lives.
