Not really a book as much as a curated interview spanning decades of Dolly’s life. If you love her, you’ll love this.
Not to sound like a broken record, because I know people have said the same thing, but it’s impossible to truly enjoy by reading alone. The only way it can be fully appreciated is to listen to the audiobook.
Dolly Parton is an icon, a legend. Listening to her tell her stories made the songs that much better. Did I side eye some of the small comments (Harvey Weinstein)? Sure, but it doesn’t stop Dolly Parton from being a light to look towards.

OMG! What a fun book to listen to!! I have always loved Dolly, but listening to her talk about her "children" (aka-her songs) was a delight. I would have given it 5 stars, but she got a bit repetitive toward the end. I recommend listening to this book on audio as they add in excerpts of many of her songs. Makes a better impact.
This was good. I can't say I ever knew much about Dolly. And is she ever a prolific songwriter. I liked most of the facts and it was fun to hear her sing song snippets in the audio.
Summary: Mining over sixty years of songwriting, Dolly Parton highlights her music and brings listeners behind the lyrics by exploring the songs that have defined her journey.

Dolly is a real gem. I loved listening to her. Content is 4 stars.
I struggled with the format. It was Q & A but you didn't hear the questions. The male narrator interrupted the flow. At the end, Dolly was saying some nice parting words. Then the male narrator "The End"

The audiobook is very uplifting. In an interview type format, Dolly Parton reminisces about many of her most well known songs. In her very positive upbeat voice, Dolly gives a little history of the song explaining the people it's about or the circumstance around the recording of it. Snippets of the songs are interspersed with the interviews. I'm not a huge fan of country music, but Dolly is a national treasure. Her combination of humility, generosity, and non-judgemental acceptance is what the world needs more of.
