3.5 stars - It was nice hearing what influenced her songs but also, it was nice hearing that she is just that nice.

I didn’t know anything about Dolly before listening but now I LOVE HER! She seems so honest and I’d want to be friends with her

This is a quick little read/listen. It's formatted almost like an interview where Dolly is obviously answering a question she was asked either about a song directly or a time in her life. What an interesting look into the why and wheres of Dolly's lyrics. There were many I had never heard of, so to hear her talk about the inspirations for them were such a treat!

I'm not a Country Music follower so I've never heard the vast majority of Dolly Parton's songs, though of course I do know a few of them. The little I did know of her, however, has always led me to think, "What an amazing woman," and when I came across this recently published book I decided to borrow it from the library. I thought I'd probably flip a few pages and then return it, but actually I read all of Parton's notes that accompanied her songs and I enjoyed all the photos - she really is Country-glam gorgeous. So now I know a lot more biographical data, I know a lot more about her as a person, and my esteem of her has gone up. I also have added a number of songs to my Spotify playlist, both recordings by Dolly Parton and of other artists recording songs she has written. All round, an excellent result from this book borrowed on a whim.

Such a good book about the songs Dolly has written, recorded and has recorded by others. I loved the photos especially the ones of her and her husband!

I loved hearing her tell the stories, but I want to read the book to see the pictures some day! She’s always been a favorite of mine since I was little.
