another great book by weeks, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. great plot, interesting characters, kept me up reading until the wee hours of the night. Can't write too much, on to book two!
kinda of confusing until you get a better grasp on the world state but an extremely good read nonetheless
Let's go! Good character development, interesting engaging plot.
adventurous
dark
mysterious
tense
medium-paced
Very good opening to a trilogy. Worth a read. I’ll be picking up book 2.
similar in many ways to Scott Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora and Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice. Yet maintains its independence with the fascinating world and convincing characters that Weeks invents.
AMAZING. Mr. Weeks is the new fantasy writer to watch. Characters, plot, and world are all masterfully sculpted, and you'll be hooked almost immediately. Caveat: might not be for those who dislike too much violence. I, personally, really believe it added to the story. But, bravo! I highly recommend to all [b:fantasy lover|84136|Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter, #1)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171050604s/84136.jpg|2384]s.
It had so much promise but the number of characters became mind-boggling after a point.
It wouldn't have been a major issue if the characters or their roles were well explained. We really just got random names that should mean but we have to guess at it because there was no explanation about it.
It had so many clichés, I love them when they're subtle and well written, not just thrown at my face one after the other.

This was a fun read and did a good job at weaving different lives together. I especially appreciated that it wasn’t overly focused on romance or slashing.
Typical fantasy, in a lot of ways, but a really enjoyable trilogy. Characters you can engage with and like AND dislike, mysteries which keep you guessing. The conclusion of the series is inevitable, but the ride there is good enough to make it worthy.
