Assassins and interesting magical powers...perhaps I'm biased but I loved this

A large cast of characters that were all interesting in their own right. It took a while to get through the book but I was invested through every page. The winding plot forced me to take a break now and again. I also enjoyed the steady development of the characters over time, the fight scenes which were all very well written and the sense of peril around every corner.

I don't want to say it's my favourite book at the moment but I'm going to anyway.

I’m very intrigued. I really liked this book but I felt that the world building was too rushed in some parts and dragged on in others.

Magic Ninja Assassin. Did I get your attention? Good. To say that is what these books are about, does not do it justice. These books are actually quite complex. There is a large world contained within, a complex and excellent magic system, and absolutely fantastically drawn and mesmerizing characters, that you will not help but be able to become entirely loyal to. Durzo and Madame K are probably two of my favorite characters that I’ve ever read about, and they’re not even the protagonist, so what does that tell you?

These books have the best written fight scenes that I’ve ever read hands down, so if you are the type that is looking for action-adventure fantasy that remains magical but realistic, then these are the books for you.

Weeks is one of my new favorite authors. It’s very original, especially for the fantasy genre. The books move quickly and you’ll never be bored. There are times that the world seems a bit helter skelter, but the plot is always dead on, the images vivid, and the characters great.

Although a bit gruesome in the beginning, I loved the plot intricacies and character development throughout the story. I loved the beginning, middle, and end and it was probably the best rogue-assassin book that I have ever read.

I wanted to get on with the second book but I couldn't exactly remember anything about this first one, so I re-read this installment. The book is still as enjoyable as it was the first time (or maybe because I only remember about 5% of the story so I got to relive it all over again---which is a good thing)

4 Stars = Brilliant

A dark story of assassin's and the underground world they come from. The magic system isn't simple, in fact I had to just go with the flow, and while the first 109 pages were cinematic and tight, after that it got a bit mushy and could have done with some editing.
Overall though a great story, and I'm excited to read the next one.

bogged down in the end but still like the premise and will move on to #2
