Absolutely wonderful. Well worth the wait, and this one delivers more of the same mischief and Callie Vee's gumption as the first. It's so nice to have historical fiction in a young adult/children's book. I can only wait until the next installment!

I’m so sorry but I feel like I am missing something. The reviews of the book are so high and glowing. I k ow several people who I love and admire who adore this book and I found it dull. Like I had to force myself to read it and each time I was hopeful that something would happen. It’s a story of a girl who wanted to be a scientist and who had a natural inclination to curiosity which seems like something up my alley but blah. Sorry - I tried.

Me gustó más el primero, pero aún así ha sido una delicia volver a la Texas de Callie y su familia.

I really enjoyed the first title in this series so was a bit disappointed in this one. It seemed much more episodic; taking almost 1/2 the book to get to the point. I liked the parts of the book where Calpurnia starts to realize how much she will have to fight to reach her goal and that the obstacles may be familial. It just wasn't as strong a story.

an utter delight. more a series of little vignettes than an actual story, but a perfect follow up to the first. this is the modem Little House on the Prairie, with lots of feminist touches and educational tidbits too. all young girls should read these books!

It was nice to step into Calpurnia's world again (*loved* THE EVOLUTION OF CALPURNIA TATE). My daughters and I listened to it on audiobook, and even though they hadn't read the first book, they had no trouble slipping in. Such a great historical backdrop again here, especially about the Galveston hurricane (which sent us looking up details).

I had pretty low expectations for this book. Ok not that low. But honestly the book was published in 2009 and then 6 years later another was published. Of course I was happy but I wondered if it would be as good as the first. Of course it was. Callie is still spunky witty self. But I did see it through different eyes. I read the first book when I was 9 or ten years old. I noticed a lot of the sexism as I read the second book. I loved and hated the sexism I guess you could say. It pissed me off that Callie wasn't treated right but at the same time it was understandable at that time period. Which is why its historical fiction. What I love about this book is that Calpurnia questions why women are degraded this way and doesn't think its fair. I really hope there's a third book but hopefully I won't have to wait another 6 years for it. :)

Callie Vee is one-of-a-kind. The story is enriched by historical and scientific details.
