Alexa Martin can do NO wrong. this book was everything I needed.

This book was enjoyable to read but the male love interest was flat as a board. I literally know nothing about him.

The relationship was cute and even though it was instalust, the author took the time to make them get to know each other.

The best friend is my hero, she doesn’t let the main character get away with bullshit while being supportive, loving and funny 🥰

Exploring the relationship with the sister was great.

The fact that Drew was a bookstore owner who doesn’t like to read was interesting. Especially when we know why.
And the fact that she loved the bookstore and was so invested in it because of her grandmother was very heartwarming.

But for me the best part was her relationship with her grandma and the exploration of her grief process. It hit very close to home and made me cry several times.

Sweet, reflective and enjoyable. Snagged this one thinking it would be a lighthearted romance and while it definitely was, the romance plot was second to the friendships and the enjoyment of the main characters growth in the novel which was an unexpected surprise.

3.5 rounded up. i enjoyed a lot of pieces of this, but i found some of the dialogue a little cringey and i thought the ending was a little rushed. it was a lot of fun and i always love reading and people and books!

The premise of this book hooked me and I thought I would 100% enjoy it but the execution ruined it for me. The writing did not work, I didn't like their dialogue, internal or external. Also, what she was mad about seemed trivial and an overreaction.
lighthearted relaxing

I don’t think she asked him a single question about himself (a fun lil reversal) but you’re in love go off

The scene at the lawyers office did make me teary so I guess there’s that. But no resolution to the family’s drama ie the only thing that kept me still reading?????

In the fewest words possible, Better Than Fiction is a cozy bookshop romance with a little bit of spice and a fairly relatable female protagonist. Every single other character, however, is sorely underdeveloped to the point of caricature. This would be a good choice for when your attention is divided—because you can absolutely multitask while you read/listen without losing the thread of the narrative at all.

Three stars. No rounding. I liked it, but you won't hear me gushing about this one.
