In the fewest words possible, Better Than Fiction is a cozy bookshop romance with a little bit of spice and a fairly relatable female protagonist. Every single other character, however, is sorely underdeveloped to the point of caricature. This would be a good choice for when your attention is divided—because you can absolutely multitask while you read/listen without losing the thread of the narrative at all.
Three stars. No rounding. I liked it, but you won't hear me gushing about this one.

2.5
I loved the first half of this book SO much. The MCs struggle with taking on all she did after such a loss, and to see her strength was awesome. But the second half, and the reason they broke up, seemed so trivial and took me out of the story.
I'm very excited to try the authors' other books! I did like most of the story and all the characters!

I think this might actually be a 2.5 for me. I enjoyed it enough to finish listening to it, and I didn't hate it. But it felt soooo "trope-y." I felt like I could see the outline used and the notes on the places and situations, and it just didn't feel natural or nuanced, or surprising.
I liked it while reading, but after looking at some of the other reviews I realized that I liked it a bit less.
The book was so cute. It was cheesy and fluffy, and the two main characters develop really nicely. However, almost too nicely. Its all so fast, and you know that in the first fourth of the book that they are in love. IDK, mid.
It uses a lot of pop culture, but falls short in some areas. It was cute, but again, IDK, mid.

hello and welcome to my review of a book i completely cannot remember reading, even though i read it in the recent past.
we're so happy to have you. (we being myself and my failing brain, which is probably being destroyed as we speak by this hellsite and the excess sugar in my diet working as one.)
luckily, i took approximately two notes, indicating the following:
i liked what this book was TRYING to do, but it felt unfinished.
like yeah, it's an arc, but the writing...the plot...the romance...the side characters and backstories...i just wanted More.
bottom line: never a good sign when your mind files a book as "forget."

I love a good Alexa Martin novel, and this one is right on par with expectations. Solid and wonderful female friendships and a little bit of steam. It's not super spicy, but any book with a hot and kind author as the hero works for me.
3.5 stars. The writing was cringe-y at times, but I did love the bookstore setting and some of the messages that the author conveyed. I also liked the way it wrapped up.
This had the premise of something that I thought I would love, a sweet rom com where she inherits a book store and he is a novelist. Unfortunately, this was such a miss and if I hadn’t listened to the audiobook I would have given up.
I understand the struggles Drew faced after losing her grandmother and adjusting to owning the bookstore she was left with, but I didn’t connect with her as a character. It wasn’t appealing to me how much Drew talked about hating books, she was opinionated in an annoying way, and as a result I didn’t root for the relationship either.
Almost as soon as I finished this, I forgot about it. I can see what this book was trying to do, it just didn’t do it for me.
