Kind of a slog through the middle 1/3rd. Must have picked it up and put it down a dozen times over the last 6 months...

4.5 stars. I spoiled this series for myself because I wanted to know what the controversy was, and so I knew how this would end, but I loved A Lesson in Thorns so much that I felt compelled to keep reading the series. And I still do. I don’t love the cliffhanger in this book or the author’s decision to take the particular path she did, but it feels undeniably like any soap opera, and I’m sucked in. I’m hoping that by the end of the series, I’ll be able to draw my own conclusions about /that/ particular plot point, but I still really love the writing style and the tone of this book. The writing is most of what’s keeping me reading, and combined with the characters it makes for a spellbinding story.

Well. Okay. Whyyyyyy do we gotta use tired tropes at the last slap-bash of the story, huh? Bogus.

I'm leaving the 4 rating and pretending the last chapter didn't happen :) it better not be real. :))))))))))

Edit: dug for spoilers and end is real. Reduced to 3stars

Sierra Simone seriously has a writing skill that is unmatched. Her stories are so unique and thought provoking and TANTALIZING

this book series is DELICIOUS and so TABOO I love it

The ending while I just KNEW it was coming ugh the signs were there. But ugh I just didn’t want it to be true. This will be devastating and painful

I was a little scared going into this one; now that they've all gotten it out of their system, would there be way more sex or would we scale it back down to 1 big sex scene? And I have to say (unpopular opinion incoming) the sparse scenes of intimacy served this book well. The novel starts off with a lot of sex but then conflict is implemented so we have to spend some time telling a story and earning trust, which I really enjoyed. What can I say? Maybe I am a romantic at heart.

The character work in this was great, I loved reading Saint's POV more than anything, but I liked the inclusion of the third person POV around the midway point to give everyone an unfiltered moment. I also did not think we would be raising theological questions in this yet again but here we are! I eat that shit up like 2-for-1 McChicken.

And the ending...... sorry but that was very funny to me. Honestly a great way to end the book, I am genuinely shocked. As you can see, I didn't dislike that bit enough for it to reflect in my overall rating. Curious to see how they deal with this in the next installment
