I always enjoy reading Mary Higgins Clark and while this was a good mystery it was also repetitive and long-winded at times.

Not stellar, no suspense, but a nice mystery to keep me occupied during a quiet afternoon. No real "surprises," either, regarding who was behind the murder, etc.

I vaguely feel this books is "suspense" with a question mark. It's not really a mystery per se and it's definitely not a thriller. Most of it can be figured out relatively quickly and there are no surprises. So it was an okay read, I guess. Nothing amazing.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. However, it was as suspenseful as I expect from Mary Higgins Clark. But all in all an enjoyable read so I'd give it 3.5 stars.

Out of all the authors I read Mary Higgins Clark has been on the list the longest. The only one from my teen years I still read. While authors tend to decline and I either outgrow or get annoyed by them, Mary Higgins Clark is still able to keep me reading her books. She's had a few duds but overall the lady can tell a good story. In this book we follow the stories of two women. Betsy and wealthy widow on trial for the murder of her husband, a man diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and Delaney a reporter covering the trial. As the story unfolds we learned Delaney was adopted and eager to find her birth mother and Is also friends with recurring characters Alvirah and Willie Meehan. While the last time they appeared in a story they drove me crazy, this time around they are helping to track down Delaney's birth mother and are not front and centre. Although I enjoyed reading this book, I decided to go with four stars. It lacks the suspense of her earlier novels, there wasn't really a mystery, especially in the search for Delaney's mother and while the murder was puzzling I figured it out long before the end of the book. Still a quick enjoyable read, I loved the characters even Tony who I found hilarious. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a light easy read or a good beach book.

Week 52 of the 2016 Reading Challenge: A book published in 2016. MHC is always a quick, entertaining read and this one did not disappoint.

And so I finish the 2016 Reading Challenge and still 4 days left in the year! Now to think about which one I want to do next year.....

" 'We'll find out soon enough,' Alvirah said, as she unsuccessfully tried to wrap linguine around her fork and ended up dropping it back in the bowl."

"'Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction." Jon smiled. "Eat your salmon. Don't let it get cold like your grilled cheese sandwich.'"
