It made for gentle background listening. I imagine if I knew/cared more about London I would have enjoyed it more
This book is a pure joy. I learned so much about the history of the Thames, London itself and the art of seeking and finding. I’m a longtime follower of Lara’s on Facebook and was overjoyed when she announced her book. I would recommend this read to anyone with an interest in buried treasure, history and the art of mudlarking. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Was a great audiobook - don’t know if I would have finished it if I read it in print. The pace was slow but it suited the content!

So this was an interesting non-fiction book that talked about an activity known as "Mudlarking". I'm not giving anything away by explaining that the Thames River, that travels through the heart of London, has a tide that comes in and out twice a day. Given the history of the area, there are individuals that will look for bits of history when the tide is out. This book is the experience of one of these individuals. In her stories of Mudlarking, she talks about what she has found and the history of the item and the area which is very interesting.
A few months ago I read a book called The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. In this modern era book, the main character arrives in London and stumbles upon a group that is gathering to go "Mudlarking". Although it was a minor part of the story, I was intrigued by the idea of modern day treasure hunters on muddy banks of the Thames. So imagine my surprise when I saw this title on our Book Club's reading list.
I like history. This book is well off my usual reading genre. So it was interesting. It was not emotional or mentally demanding.
