A fun start to a new era in the universe that gathers up what came before to set up the future.

4/5 A tad unfocused and slightly worldbreaking, but Anderson always brings some prime adventure.

I see this series gets a lot of flack, and I can see why in some cases. Anderson isn't the greatest writer, and while I found the book to be more readable than some of the other authors featured in the Expanded Universe, it still felt serviceable at best. Parts of it felt forced in (I'm still trying to figure out the point of Lando's adventure to the glob races (and the less said of the "globstacle course", the better...)), and the dialogue didn't always feel natural. Plus, there's the whole thing about "Jedi Master Luke Skywalker", since that's how he's referred to about 90% of the time. WE GET IT.

I didn't love this, but I didn't hate it either. I think it's a decent start to the trilogy and sets up some interesting stories, but the way it does so can be a bit boring at times (specifically the Lando chapter when he watches a blob race- what was the point of that?). The writing can be a bit over-simplistic at times, but it's serviceable and inoffensive. I wasn't a huge fan of Han's story until they escaped Kessel and found Admiral Daala, who I actually do find to be a very cool villain and I'm excited to see more of her. I also like the fact that we're getting a lot of payoff from Luke wanting to pass along Jedi teachings for the past dozen books or so, and we finally get to see that process starting. Overall not bad, worth a read for sure, but a bit forgettable.

This book was another book in legends that was okay, they're so many little plots with Lea and her worries, luke with his Jedi academy, Han and Chewie in the mines of Kessel. So yes the whole Jedi search plot is like 10% of the whole book getting our chapters here and there. But with the whole Sun crusher plot, I liked Kesel and Admiral's Daala's feminism moment and the whole Tarkin background is uh weird. The whole background of rising in the ranks that is not normal with special abilities honestly reminds me of Thrawn somehow. But if the main plot described in the back was more the main focus, it would be better. The number of subplots is a lot and is a lot to focus on, as an example, the blob race dragged the book and I mostly skipped the racing stuff. But the new characters are a nice breath of fresh air and add to the story so overall this was a setup book that did drag and had good promise which will all be rewarded in the second one. Not the best legend book but if you want to go ahead it is just not what was promised.

This Star Wars EU novel was a pretty exciting read. It is the first EU novel I have read and it was rather thrilling to have a whole new adventure to follow and get lost in.

Pretty interesting setup

Well-written and fun. I went into this looking for a good Luke Skywalker story and ended up having to read about EVERYONE IN STAR WARS EVER. I felt like the book kept throwing in the various main characters just to remind me I was reading a Star Wars book. Like, "Hey, look, guys, it's LANDO. Huh? Check it out! Lando is in Star Wars, too!" The blob races side-story really drags and ends up nowhere, too. Sorry, Lando! This story takes place after Return of the Jedi, also after Luke seems to have gone to the Dark Side for a bit. He's all good again and looking to start a Jedi temple. Where to find the remaining folk out there strong with the Force? And How? And then where do they go? Meanwhile, Leia is working hard in the New Republic, on top of having young twins. Han Solo gets himself and Chewbacca into some trouble with the spice mines on Kessel. Could have definitely done without some of the various plot points, but it wasn't ever terrible. Just a bit cluttered? I selfishly wanted more Luke in a book called Jedi Search. Too many other things get in the way of said search! I am curious about the other two books in this series, though. Also a bit in love with Kyp, the boy from the spice mines who seems a bit strong in the ol' Force department. I will read more!

Jedi Search is one of the novels which builds the New Jedi Order- the character arc which should have stayed canon in my honest opinion. The novel doesn't cover a lot per se but it uses the material it does have to a great effect. One thing that struck me most is Admiral Daala and her troops, the bubble away from the events of the destruction of the death star was fascinating. Now onto book 2!
