Every once in a while I decide to read an adult book. I'm almost always quickly reminded why I don't do that.

I just read the Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker and was blown away! I cannot believe that Ms. Whitaker is a debut novelist! She has talent in spades and I will definitely be watching for more from her. The partnership of Vaught and Kisses is one that will haunt my thoughts for a long time.

The Animators is a story of relationships - a messy, intense roller coaster of emotion that is ultimately rooted in love. Some of the relationships work and others fizzle out, but that's life. Join Sharon and Mel on their journey through life, art, love, heartbreak, success, failure, and success again. While not all of this book really grabbed my interest, the characters are well developed, and fans of realistic human relationship dramas will enjoy it.

Very interesting character-driven story. This book was not what I thought it would be, but it was a nice treat with a lot of details that made me feel what the characters felt. I recommend this book, but keep an open mind when you read. :)

Count me among the people who really wanted to like this book--it certainly begins in a promising way--but it fell flat to me.

I was caught up in this story almost immediately. The characters felt complicated and real, and I was happy to be immersed in their world even though it is one I know almost nothing about. I thought there were a few more dramatic plot turns than the story needed, but the author's style is witty and engaging and I'm curious to see what she will come up with next.
