I've had a bit to process the book and I should say that this is one of the best books in the series. The last installment made me a little mad because I felt as though some of the characters acted in ways I didn't think they would really act and I hated some of the things that happened in general. This book made up for all of that, plus some. It was an amazing installment. It would be my favorite if two things had been different: 1. Dahli had been in it 2. My favorite character had a different experience...I won't say more because I don't want to give it away but yeah. Damn it.
Some really interesting things came up in this book though and some great foreshadowing. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
I don't want to say too much yet because I need to let the book process so I don't give anything away BUT the Andrews do it again!!!! They are so good!!!
Ilona Andrews - a married couple - have to be some of the most generous writers around. They are constantly adding short stories, deleted scenes, free fiction, and extras galore for fans. It is worth everyone moment and cent to buy their stuff.
It's interesting to read this book because it's so far into a series that just got extended. They do a brilliant job of keeping the characters interesting and the plot gripping.
Can't wait for the next installment!!!

So much happens in this book! It's full of lore, action and plot advancement for the series.
The basic set up: We open with two were children that have gone loup. Kate and Curran are forced to take a suspicious job, even if it seems like a trap, for the smallest chance at a cure. Not just for these kids, but potentially any born to the pack.
Madness ensues.
Love the stakes/set up. The kids having gone loup is horrifying, and the fate of Maddie is an excellent reason to risk going to Europe.
Kate and Curran misunderstanding/conflict has me so conflicted. I like how it ends but man going through it is so frustrating and angry making on behalf of Kate. Argh his reason in particular for not even telling her he's lying.

These legitimately keep getting better and better. TOP-TIER ANGST in this one. So much action. So much mystery! Either I was too dumb to figure out what was going on or the slow trickle of information and reveals was just well-written and satisfying. In either event, pip pip Cheerio! "What other things?"
"How to effectively kill one of you with a six-inch knife. I'm a fast learner and I had a lot of practice. Turns out there is a way to jam the knife blade under the cervical vertebrae in such a way that hour neck pops right out. Remind me some time, I'll show you."

This series is always so much fun! There were a few things that bothered me (I'm looking at you, Curran) but the good things were really good, and I love Kate's twisted sense of humor. Probably my favourite book in the series so far, can't wait to see what happens next
