I needed a full day to recover from this book. Wow.
The Kate Daniels series really is a rollercoaster that only goes up.
This book had mystery, it had action, it had angst, it had hope, it had tragedy.
There’s some relationship drama, and it definitely made me grind my teeth a little bit.
To be honest, I did full on cry on this one. But the endings of these books are always so well thought out.
Kate has carved out a place for herself amongst my favorite heroines of all time and this series is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

The start of the books is getting a bit rough but once the action starts is awesome.
I usually don't like when there is a problem with communication in relationships, it's very frustrating but it was really well done in this book.
It's weird to say but... I kind of like Hugh? Sorry.
It was nice also the character development for Kate in this book.

Easily the best one yet, everything was turned up a notch for this one, very satisfying ending too, I love it when a character does something kind, and that act then comes back to reward them later on.
This book tore my heart out and munched on it! The struggles of being alpha never end, and Kate's facing even more battles because of her lineage. I loved the setting - it was really exciting to be out of the Keep and in a whole new country. The action in this one had so much tension and the fallout was intense. Where do they go from here? I can't wait to find out.
HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FANTASTIC.
AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER-COASTER.
A TALE OF SACRIFICE AND TRAGEDY AND LOVE.
HILARIOUS STORY WITH MINDFUCKING TWISTS.
ACTION-PACKED AND FAST-PACED.
TESTOSTERONE AND ANGER ARE SO THICK IN THE AIR THEY'RE CHOKING YOU.
UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC.
I CRY EVERY TIME.
WILL NOT RE-READ BECAUSE THIS BOOK IS TOO AGONIZING.
FALL IN A FUCKED UP LOVE WITH HUGH, HE'LL RUIN YOU.
I HATE CURRAN. I LOVE CURRAN. I WANT TO PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE.
TOO MANY SAD THINGS HAPPENED IN THIS BOOK.

This is my fave of the series so far, along with #4.
We get to learn more about Kate's physical prowess--what it takes to stay so badass, including how she can wield two blades at once. 🔥
We get a ship journey! I know not everyone loves a ship in a book, but I DO. Also, they have a fight with weredolphins on the ship, and weredolphins aren't as cute as you think they're going to be.
We get a lot of Hugh, who I adore even though he is clearly a scoundrel. He and Kate are involved in a crazy good fight with some spiky scary creatures.
We learn that Ilona Andrews can do no wrong, even with an Evil Other Woman on the scene. They justify it and use it as part of the broader plot, rather than just a way to create drama between the FMC and MMC.
Kate wrestles with isolation a lot in this one. Curran is shutting her out, she's a human who lives among shapeshifters, and some of her friends seem to be terrified of her. It's really powerful and a nice development in her arc.
Have I mentioned that I love Hugh?
Curran has an epic tantrum, which is adorable.
There are several moments that will squish your heart into pulp.
Masterful work once again from Ilona and Gordon.

This one wasn't quite as good as the others. I stopped and started a few times. I felt like the addition of potential new love interests was too obvious and rather heavy handed.
