Buckle up, we're going on a trip! Curran has been invited to Europe by the packs there and they promise him looots of panacea which can prevent/cure loupism. Kate obviously insists on going with him and they build a crew that gets to go with them. Saiman is back to provide a ship, halleluja. The set-up for the trip felt a bit clunky, because Maddie is Julie's best friend but we'd never heard of her before and she's also never mentioned by Julie again in the next books.
We get to the Black Sea and meet Desandra, the lady who's pregnant with twins, her father, the Italian pack with one father and the Ukrainian pack with the other father. I love how the mystery of the attacks unfolds slowly and that we have another threat waiting in the background.
Namely Hugh D'Ambray! Lemme tell you, that was a plot twist that I did not expect in the least. And I loved it! Kate is trying to find out what Hugh wants with her while also trying to figure out which one of the packs are the monsters that eat human flesh. A lot happens towards the end, Kate meets a gnome, Curran fights Hugh until he breaks his spine and throws him into the fire and Aunt B is murdered by the Iron Dogs. We also acquire some new friends, Desandra and her babies as well as Christopher who's mind is broken but who conveniently remembers how to make panacea. Let's not even talk about the other woman drama, my heart bled for Kate.
I loved this one! The plot kept on giving and I was thoroughly entertained!

This was not for me! I like urban fantasy not shapeshifters in the country. I skimmed this book until I was at 70% through, skipping many pages fight scenes, exposition and lore all related to this book only. The stuff with Curran was so dumb, I hate the plot device of a loathsome Jezebel. Dump him! The last 30% of the book was much better and I will soldier on because I do like most of the characters.

[4 Stars] This could have been a 5 star book, but the relationship drama bits literally made my heart ache the entire time. You feel everything Kate feels, and it isn't fun or pretty. I'm not sure how I feel about how Curran acted in this book. I don't think he should have done what he did because it just wasn't right. I do like that Kate doesn't really stand for it though, but it still makes me feel conflicted. It is why this book gets a 4 star rating instead of a higher one.
Apart from that I loved everything else. Man, this book made me FEEL, made me cry, made me feel just how much I loved these characters. If I had one thing to say it would be that the lore got a little weird from time to time; like really weird... Regardless this is such an amazing urban fantasy series. Go read it now!

Another amazing read. We finally get to venture out of Atlanta in book six and cross the ocean. This is great since I had been wondering what other places would be like post-Shift and how importation worked. We are introduced to new characters/creatures. The witty comebacks are huge in this book. It was funny and heart-wrenching at moments. Be warned! I think I want this whole series in physical form.
