A straightforward, detailed and direct account of January 6 select committee process and findings. It’s necessary reading for every American, frankly, but likely won’t be read by those who really need to hear the message. Too many people don’t understand how close we are to losing our democracy and how critical defeating authoritarian rule is right now, meaning not letting Trump anywhere near the presidency ever again. As Cheney says in her last line, “This is the cause of our time.” I almost deducted a star for the far too frequent admiring references to her dad and Reagan, two men I loathe, but it’s her story and she’s entitled to admire loathsome men, I guess. At least she’s beholden to the rule of law.

I disagree with Liz Cheney on almost everything except this: that the rule of law and the peaceful transition of power are the foundations of our democracy remaining strong. She lays out in great detail why the election of 2020 and especially the January 6 attempted coup were so damaging and why the perpetrators of it starting at the top must be punished to make sure this never happens again. This book is so important in so many ways, and while it was difficult to relive that time, I am glad I read it and hope everyone will read it to keep this particularly awful history from repeating itself.

Never thought I would actually enjoy reading a book that felt like a college textbook. But this is living history. We saw this as it was happening. Whether you agree with Liz Cheney's politics is irrelevant. You will appreciate this book either way because it explains the run-up to the 2020 election and it's aftermath from a purely informational standpoint. No bias, no spin.

Liz Cheney provides an excellent account of what happened leading up to the insurrection on January 6, Trump's role in it, the investigation that ensued, and why we can never let this happen again.
She is a true patriot, a great American, and we own her and others who have spoken up against Trump's threat to our democracy a debt of gratitude.
Throughout her account she weaves presidential history and examples of the peaceful transfer of power that is central to our democracy.
We may be at opposite ends of the political spectrum but there is no limit to my respect for her and the courage she has shown in the face of tyranny.

I may disagree with most of Cheney's policies, but I appreciate her courage and honesty in dealing with Trump and January 6. The book is well done.
Absolutely incredible, unputdownable read regarding what happened on January 6, the hearings, the effect on the country, and what comes next. Liz Cheney obviously took copious notes or has a photographic memory. Should be required reading for all Americans before the next election or anyone who says it doesn’t matter who we vote for.
