I listened to the audiobook, read by Liz Cheney herself. The audiobook version included recorded interviews that were part of the January 6th hearings, as well as audio recordings from the day itself. She presents overwhelming evidence and testimonies that show how so many people were aware of the dangers on that day, as well as Trump’s plan to override election results. The book also presents testimonies and evidence that those same people lied about it to save their own jobs. I don’t agree with Ms. Cheney politically, but I have the highest level of respect for her for putting country over party and defending the constitution. I think everyone should read or listen to this.

Liz Cheney narrates this book of course but what makes it so good to listen to is throughout the book there are countless audio clips of those involved speaking in their voice at the moment. Many of the times anyone is quoted from a press conference they held, public comments in an interview, or testimony during the Jan. 6 investigation we hear the actual footage. Cheney pulls many of the moving pieces we all remember reading about into a compelling narrative that all Americans should be informed of. The audiobook comes with a pdf of all the photos and captions included in the book.

This book was very unsettling. While I knew most of what Rep. Cheney was discussing in the book because I followed the J6 committee, hearing a first-hand account was revealing.
Anyone who doubts the impending wishes of the MAGA movement only need to read this book. What would have happened if we had this congress in power prior to the Civil War and Lend Lease? My God!

I thought the remaining American patriots/heroes died with John McCain. I am heartened to see that I as incorrect. Liz Cheney is an American hero and patriot. She is worthy of our respect and gratitude.

A quote that will go down in history: "I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain." - Elizabeth Cheney.

Set aside one's own policy or partisan beliefs and listen to what Cheney is saying. Her warning is well supported and not idle. This should be required reading in civics classes - oh, wait, we don't really have those any more. When I tell people I am reading this book I get two responses "oh, she's just positioning herself to run for president," or "I wouldn't read that, because I don't agree with her policies." Each of these views miss the point - our Constitution and Democracy was, and is, under attack by Donald Trump and his supporters. Our form of government and loyalty to the Constitution over men is exactly the thing that gives us the freedom to debate our policy differences and to choose our direction as a nation. We lose that and what we have left is governance by fear and by whim. When the Constitution and Democracy are subverted, all that is left is to fall in line with the strong man and either sink or swim according to his will and preference, not one's own. This is anti-American on its face. We should listen to, and take seriously, Cheney's warning regardless of whether or not one agrees with her policy views.
