How often do you wish you knew the story from a different point of view? Just as freshly written as Wonder.
Sometimes it's good to start over again.
The Julian chapter was a perfect ending to this book Wonder. I believed this guy was mean and a bully but I forgot he was also a ten years old kid who was making his way through his childhood.
After reading his side of story, I was not at all mad at him. I kind of felt sad for Julian, too. When everyone in his school decided to boycott him, that made this little kid sad too.
But, this was just the repercussions of his behaviour right from the beginning.
And, I don't want to blame him for his bellicose behaviour. It was his parents who forgot the fine line between love and over possessiveness. They were justifying his bad behaviour.
It was when his grandma narrated her own story, he changed. And, I loved that part. I am happy with this ending.

Excellent companion to the amazing Wonder. We see more of Julian's story and understand his choices. Palacio works her magic again in showing real feelings, consequences, and second chances.
Loved Julian's perspective... definitely lessened some (just some) of my animosity for him
Another big disappointment. I expected Julian's story to give some background to the lack of reality in Wonder, but no. Is didn't feel realistic either. The only part that started out being interesting was grandma's holocaust story, but once again, holocaust everywhere as an excuse to save a bad story.
Also, I read it in its catalan translation, which made it worse. The characters were even less reliable in this translation. The kids didn't feel like kids at all. There was a lot of vocabulary and many expressions that a kid would never say. There were some "mola" ("cool") here and there, but the syntax was too extreme for such a young boy.
I won't recommend this book and even less its catalan translation.

Not bad, even though I still don’t get the justify him part. The best thing was the story her grandma told.
I think this book was great because it gave Julien a chance to tell his side of the story, and there was an equally compelling narrative thrown in by his grandmother, too. Things don't always end up perfectly, but there can be resolution of a sort. Nicely done, quick to read and extremely satisfying. Another tale of courage, and, yes, being kind.
It was worth the read! :) Glad to hear from the side of Julian! :)
I got the pleasure of reading this as a part of my Wonder rental from my local library. It was a great surprise, as I was hoping to read it when I finished the original book anyway. It was well written and an EXCELLENT explanation of "the other side". (There are always two sides!) Just when I thought the ending couldn't get any better, and I wouldn't shed another tear, I was wrong. This author certainly knows how to pull at your heart strings in the best ways!
